The 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 is a light-duty pickup truck that shares many components and features with its corporate cousin, the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, but which includes some exclusive components like the six-function MultiPro tailgate.
The GMC Sierra competes with the Ram 1500, the Ford F-150 and the Toyota Tundra.

Platform

  • The 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 LD is built on GM’s T1 platform that is also used in the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.

Pricing

  • The 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 starts at $33,500 plus a $1,495 destination charge.
  • Top-of-the-line Denali trim models start at $56,195 plus a $1,495 destination charge and can reach $78,645 before any dealer-installed accessories.
  • The 2018 GME Sierra 1500 started at $29,000 plus a $1,395 destination charge.

Trims

  • The 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 is available in six trims: base, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4 and Denali.
  • The range-topping Denali model comes with the MultiPro tailgate, a Bose premium sound system, numerous safety technologies and a spray-on bedliner with the Denali logo.
  • All models come with a three-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain limited warranty.
  • 17-inch Silver painted steel wheels are standard on the base trim, with 17-inch, 6-spoke Bright Silver painted aluminum wheels; 18-inch, 6-spoke machined aluminum wheels; 20-inch black wheels; and 20-inch polished aluminum wheels available on other trims.

Dimensions

  • The dimensions of the 2019 GMC Sierra vary depending on options.
  • The regular cab with the short box has a 126.5-inch wheelbase and a 210.8-inch overall length. The regular cab with the standard box has a 139.5-inch wheelbase and a 229.6-inch overall length. The double-cab with the short box has a 147.4-inch wheelbase and a 231.7-inch overall length. The crew cab with the short box has a 147.4-inch wheelbase and a 231.7-inch overall length. The crew cab with the standard box has a 157-inch wheelbase and a 241.3-inch overall length.
  • The AT4 trim adds 0.1 inches to these measurements.
  • All configurations have an 81.2-inch width.

2019 GMC Sierra 1500

Powertrain

  • The base engine in the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 is a 4.3-liter EcoTec3 V6 that produces 285 horsepower and 305 pound-feet of torque. The 2.7-liter turbo produces 310 horsepower and 348 pound-feet of torque. The 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 produces 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. The 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8 produces 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.
  • The 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 is also available with Dynamic Fuel Management technology.
  • A 3.0-liter turbodiesel will be available later.
  • No hybrid, plug-in hybrid or full-electric powertrains are available.
  • Two- and four-wheel drive are available.
  • The GMC Sierra uses three different transmissions depending on the engine. The 4.3-liter uses a six-speed automatic transmission, and the 2.7-liter uses an eight-speed automatic transmission. The 5.3-liter engine uses either the six- or eight-speed transmissions. The 6.2-liter gas engine and the 3.0-liter diesel use a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Towing

  • Maximum towing capacity for a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 is 12,200 pounds. This requires a double-cab configuration with the 6.2-liter V8 and the Max Trailering package.

Mileage

  • EPA fuel economy estimates for the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 vary depending on the powertrain and configuration.
  • The most efficient configuration is the two-wheel drive model with the 2.7-liter engine, which gets 20 mpg in city driving, 23 mpg in highway driving and 21 mpg combined. The least efficient configuration is the 6.2-liter V8 in AT4 trim, which gets 15 mpg in city driving, 19 mpg in highway driving and 17 mpg combined.
  • Fuel economy estimates for the diesel engine model are not yet available.

Safety

  • All 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 models come standard with six airbags, including dual-stage and seat-mounted side-impact airbags for the driver and front outboard passenger and head-curtain airbags for front and rear outboard seating positions.
  • Standard safety equipment also includes a rear-vision camera and Teen Driver mode.
  • Optional safety and driver-assistance technology includes front-collision alert, following-distance indicator, lane-change alert with side blind-zone alert, lane-keep assist, front- and rear-park assist and low-speed forward automatic braking.

Infotainment

  • Standard equipment includes a six-speaker AM/FM GMC Infotainment System with a 7-inch color touch screen. The system is Bluetooth-, Apple CarPlay- and Android Auto-compatible and has one USB port.
  • An 8-inch touch screen is standard on the SLE and Elevation trims, while the Denali trim comes with navigation and a seven-speaker system standard. PMA- and Qi- compatible mobile device wireless charging is standard on the Denali.
  • The 2019 GMC Sierra can come with up to six USB ports: two on the instrument panel, two inside the console and two in the second row.

Comfort & Convenience

  • For 2019, the next-generation Sierra 1500 gets the world’s first six-function MultiPro tailgate. The six functions allow the tailgate to be used as a standard tailgate, a standard tailgate with a load stop, an “easy access” tailgate in which a part of the gate folds out of the way to get closer to the cargo, a tailgate with a step in it that holds up to 375 pounds, an inner gate load stop and an inner gate with a work surface.
  • One 12-volt auxiliary front power outlet is standard in the 2019 GMC Sierra, with two 12-volt outlets (one in the front and one in the rear) available in the higher trim levels. Two 120-volt power outlets – one in the instrument panel, one in the pickup bed – are also available in the AT4, SLT and Denali trims.
  • Remote keyless entry, steering wheel audio controls, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and 4G LTE WiFi hotspot capability are available options.
  • A 40/20/40 split-bench front seat is standard on the base, SLE, Elevation and SLT trims. The AT4 and Denali trims include heated and ventilated 10-way power driver and front passenger bucket seats.
