FIRST-TEAM DEFENSE

DL Branden Barnes, Edison, Sr.

The 6-foot-4 and 265-pound lineman, who has been invited to play in the International Bowl for USA Football’s Under-19 Select Team, recorded 49 tackles including 17 for a loss and five sacks. Equally strong as a run-defender and pass-rusher, Barnes registered 17 quarterback pressures.

DL Kimani Smith, Colonia, Sr.

The defensive end anchored a defense that allowed an average of six points in its seven victories. Smith recorded 65 tackles including a conference-leading 24 for a loss. He posted seven quarterback sacks and also forced a fumble.

DL Xavier Cargile, South Brunswick, Sr.

Split time between the line and at linebacker as a key component in a 3-3 stack defense. Cargile recorded 62 tackles including six for a loss and three sacks. He also recovered four fumbles and caused a fumble. Cargile doubled as a starting offensive lineman.

LB Jevon Buckmire, Piscataway, Sr.

The two-year starter had an omnipresence on defense and was a devastating lead blocker as a fullback. Posted 64 tackles for the Chiefs including 11 behind the line of scrimmage. Helped pave the way for more than 2,000 rushing yards. Had a touchdown rushing and receiving against Franklin.

LB Nick Nyers, Woodbridge, Sr.

The all-time leading tackler in school history, Nyers recorded 171 tackles this season alone, including 18 for a loss. He also forced three fumbles. Transitioned from offensive lineman to fullback this year to rush for a team-leading five touchdowns and 247 yards.

LB Jose Andujar, Middlesex, Jr.

Helped lead the Blue Jays to their first sectional title since 1984 with a team-high 94 tackles. Andujar had four tackles for a loss and four sacks. He caused four fumbles, recovered two fumbles and blocked a field goal.

LB Colton Redding, Sayreville, Sr.

The heart of Sayreville’s defense, Redding posted a team-leading 101 tackles including four for a loss. He recorded four sacks, an interception and recovered a fumble. Redding also had eight catches for 102 yards and two touchdowns.

LB Thomas Joe-Kamara, South Brunswick, Jr.

Anchored a defense that held 10 opponents to two touchdowns or less. Joe-Kamara recorded a team-leading 71 tackles for the Vikings. He posted three tackles for a loss, two interceptions and caused a fumble. Joe-Kamara also rushed for 215 yards and four touchdowns.

DB Manny Resto, St. Joseph, Sr.

The safety anchored St. Joseph’s defensive backfield with 60 tackles. Resto played with equal vigor on both sides of the ball. As a running back, he rushed for a team-leading 1,201 yards and 12 touchdowns on 197 carries.

DB Elijah Clark, Sayreville, Sr.

A lockdown corner, opposing signal callers rarely threw the ball in the direction of Clark, who will attend Temple University on a full scholarship. Clark registered 22 tackles and had a key interception against Piscataway. He totaled 317 yards and four touchdowns on offense.

LB Dylan Kriz, South Brunswick, Sr.

Played exponentially bigger than his diminutive 5-foot-9 frame, making 69 tackles (second most on the team) and recording two sacks. Ran with heart out of the backfield for 199 yards and three touchdowns. Registered a pass deflection and caused a fumble.

DB Devin Lanza, Middlesex, Sr.

Was a key performer on defense and offense for the reigning Central Group I champions. Lanza posted the second most tackles (79) on the team. He also recorded an interception, five pass breakups and a safety. As a halfback, Lanza rushed for 943 yards and six touchdowns.

ATH Jaylan Lawson, South Brunswick, Sr.

Lawson registered a team-high five interceptions including one in the end zone during the Central Group V final. He recorded 54 tackles and recovered a fumble. Lawson amassed 594 all-purpose yards and scored five touchdowns including the game-winner in the sectional championship.

ATH John Kressbach, Middlesex, Sr.

Arguably the conference’s most improved two-way player, Kressbach made 44 tackles including 10 for a loss as an outside linebacker. He also registered three sacks and a pass breakup. At quarterback, he ran the triple-option with precision, amassing a team-high 990 yards and 18 touchdowns.

ATH James Schuld, East Brunswick, Sr.

Registered 44 tackles, three interceptions and seven pass deflections as a defensive back. As a dual-threat quarterback, Schuld rushed for 885 yards and passed for 985 yards while combining for 21 touchdowns. He is East Brunswick’s career leader with more than 4,000 yards from scrimmage.

PR Jacari Carter, Sayreville, Jr.

Starred on defense, offense and special teams. Carter amassed 983 all-purpose yards. He returned 19 punts for 307 yards and two scores. Carter was second on the team with nine touchdowns and led the Bombers with three interceptions. He had 333 yards and five touchdowns receiving.

U Najjir Woods, Piscataway, Sr.

Anchored a talented Piscataway secondary with 48 tackles including 11 for a loss. Woods intercepted a team-high four passes and returned one for a touchdown. As a flanker, Woods caught 20 passes for 326 yards (16.3 per catch) and four touchdowns. He also returned four kickoffs for 106 yards.
