GM Aims for Off-Roaders With GMC Canyon AT4 - Ward's Auto

General Motors introduces the GMC Canyon AT4, a late-cycle refresh of the midsize pickup due for a major redesign next year.

“The new 2021 Canyon AT4 broadens the appeal to midsize truck customers who live an active lifestyle,” Duncan Aldred, vice president-Global Buick and GMC, says in a news release. “Much like the Sierra AT4 has attracted new customers from outside GMC, the Canyon AT4 will attract outdoor enthusiasts looking for a premium midsize truck to GMC with the capability, technology and refinement they’ve come to expect.”

The Canyon AT4 features a reworked exterior defined by dark chrome finishes, with a new larger grille design and red recovery hooks. The interior’s premium detailing includes Kalahari stitching and AT4 headrest embroidery.

The AT4 is powered by a 3.6L V-6 gasoline engine making 308 hp or an optional 2.8L diesel generating 369 lb.-ft. (500 Nm) of torque.

For off-roaders, the AT4 offers as standard 31-in. Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires fitted to 17-in. aluminum wheels, all-wheel drive with rear automatic locking differential and transfer case skid plate providing additional protection.

“This is a truck created with outdoor adventurers in mind,” Aldred says. “The Canyon AT4 is a perfect complement to the driver’s other passions and appreciation of the details, whether that’s a mountain bike, a snowboard or their truck.”

The ’21 GMC Canyon is built at General Motors’ Wentzville, MO, assembly plant. The pickup will be available later this year, with pricing announced closer to production.
