J.F. Kennedy 8, Bishop Ahr 1: Vinnie Powers went 2-for-3 with three RBI to back the complete-game effort of winning pitcher Gianni Tavarez as the Mustangs advanced to the Greater Middlesex Conference Invitational Tournament semifinals.

J.F. Kennedy scored twice in the home first to erase a 1-0 deficit. Ryan Pittari (1-for-4) scored Bishop Ahr’s lone run.

Michael Mantagas went 2-for-3 with three runs scored for the Mustangs (8-10), while teammate Allen Hill singled, doubled, drove home a run and scored twice.

Nick Popo (2-for-4) and Michael Hein (1-for-2) each contributed an RBI to the victory.

The third-seeded Mustangs will face second-seeded South Amboy in the semifinals on Wednesday.

Carteret 3, South River 2: The Ramblers rallied for three runs in the bottom of the fifth to erase a 2-0 deficit on the way to a Greater Middlesex Conference Invitational Tournament quarterfinal victory.

Winning pitcher Dennis Shopp allowed two earned runs on five hits and four walks. He struck out two in a complete-game effort during which he threw 109 pitches.

Elijah Colon and Michael Gurzynski each went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the fourth-seeded Ramblers (12-10), who will face either top-seeded Spotswood or eighth-seeded Highland Park in Wednesday’s semifinals.

Hard-luck losing pitcher Nick Razzano allowed three runs, only two of which were earned, over five innings. He struck out five, walked three and scattered five hits.

Vincent Lepore and Billy Drum each had an RBI for the Rams (11-10). Michael DeSantis scored a run but was held without a hit, leaving him with 99 at this juncture of his career.

Gian Ortiz delivered Carteret’s other RBI. Razzano went 2-for-2.

Piscataway 12, Spotswood 6: Robert Kuderka went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI to help the Chiefs extend their winning streak to four games with a division crossover victory.

Winning pitcher Thomas Stewart allowed four earned runs on six hits and four walks over five innings. He also struck out one in an 85-pitch effort.

Matt Hanzich and Chris Eckel each hurled one inning of relief to preserve the win.

Piscataway (9-12) batted around in the third inning, scoring nine runs to erase a 3-1 deficit.

The damage could have been worse, but the Chiefs stranded 11 runners during the game.

Jordan Brown and Joseph Hatcher each went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Piscataway, while Eckel singled, scored a run and delivered an RBI.

Eddie Rogers drove home three runs for the Chargers (8-11), who have dropped six of their last seven.

Spotswood’s Dan Bottiglieri went 2-for-4 with two RBI, while teammate Dominick Vincelli singled twice and scored twice.

Three Spotswood pitchers combined to issue eight walks.

South Amboy 7, New Brunswick 1: Winning pitcher Kyle Gasiewski allowed one unearned run on four hits and struck out 12 without walking a batter in a complete-game victory that enabled the second-seeded Governors to advance to the Greater Middlesex Conference Invitational Tournament semifinals.

One of six South Amboy players to record at least one RBI in a balanced offensive effort, Gasiewski helped his own cause, going 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Anthony Vela singled twice and plated two runs for the Governors (10-6), while teammate Johnny Gonzalez went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.

South Amboy will face third-seeded J.F. Kennedy in the semifinals on Wednesday.

Keiry Rodriguez scored New Brunswick’s lone run in the fourth inning. He went 1-for-3 with a double.

The Zebras (10-6) were outhit 5-4. Gabriel Otero had New Brunswick’s lone RBI.
