EDITOR'S NOTE: Write-ups of games will be added as scores are reported, so please consider revisiting this page. Thank you for following our GMC baseball coverage.

St. Joseph 5, Union 4: One of six upperclassmen who took the mound on Senior Day, Lew DeAngelis earned his first career victory and recorded his first career hit to lead the Falcons (16-8) to a nonconference victory.

DeAngelis’ two-run triple gave St. Joseph a 4-0 lead, which the home team eventually squandered.

The Falcons scored twice in the first inning. Matt Sot and Derek Zelesnick each singled and advanced on a wild pitch. Aidan Drury plated the first run with a groundout. Tom Faggioni drove home the second with a sacrifice fly.

Garrett Smith’s RBI fielder’s choice in the sixth produced the final margin.

Colin Leyner hurled the final two innings to preserve the win.

Somerville 2, Middlesex 1: In a battle of defending state champions, the Pioneers (16-6) rallied for two runs in the fifth inning to break a scoreless deadlock and held on to defeat the Blue Jays (18-6).

Middlesex loaded the bases in the seventh, when it scored its lone run, but left the game-tying run stranded at second when Raiden Yost lined sharply into the game’s final out.

Jared Venutolo went 2-for-4, accounting for one third of Middlesex’s hits. Tyrus Chippendale doubled and scored the Blue Jays’ lone run. Michael Schweyher, Jared Zimbardo and Mark Geist each had a hit for Middlesex.

Matt Holmes was the hard-luck losing pitcher. He allowed two unearned runs on eight hits and no walks with two strikeouts.

Somerville opened the fifth inning with three consecutive singles before scoring two runs on a one-out infield error.

Matawan 6, Sayreville 4: Matawan (9-13) scored three runs in the top of the third inning to erase a 3-2 deficit and held on for a nonconference win over the Bombers (9-14).

Ethan Calcano and Christian Aich had two hits and two RBI apiece for Sayreville. Dan McDonnell singled, doubled and scored a run for the Bombers.

Sayreville utilized four pitchers.
