New GMC Sierra takes tailgate and technology to new heights - cleveland.com

It used to be that truck full-sized truck buyers considered only durability and power as key purchase criteria. But today’s truck buyers have added comfort, technology and functionality to their checklists.

The new GMC Sierra 150 delivers all of that in spades.

“It’s been on the market a couple of months, but the Cleveland Auto Show is its big roll out to this market,” says Kevin Joyce, president of Joyce Buick GMC in Avon. “The key feature that everyone should check out is the new MultiPro Tailgate.”

Talk about cool.

An industry-first, the MultiPro Tailigate offers six functions and positions for enhanced second-tier loading and load-stop solutions, a standing workstation and easier access to items in the cargo box.

“It’s highly functional for the casual weekender because it is so easy to access the bed of the truck,” says Joyce. “It also functions very well for trades folks. It can be used as a desk top and is designed so you can carry long things in bed. A portion of gate opens up so you can secure long sheets, 8-foot panels. It is very unique in the market. And the Cleveland Auto Show is a great place to see it, and find out what it’s all about.

But there’s a lot more to the Sierra 1500 than its tailgate. The entire truck has been redesigned from the ground up. It cuts a mean figure from the curb.

It’s also larger in almost every dimension, including a longer wheelbase and longer crew cab body that offers about three inches more rear legroom than the previous model. Its also 360 pounds lighter than the previous model, thanks to the use of aluminum on the doors, hood and tailgate, with steel for the fenders, roof and standard cargo box. Another industry first is the available CarbonPro carbon fiber cargo box, which was developed to increase durability, efficiency and functionality, while offering best-in-class dent, scratch and corrosion resistance.

Of course, the new Sierra is also loaded with technology.

Up front, a multi-color head-up display projects key, customizable vehicle data on the windshield in a 3-inch x 7-inch display

A rear camera mirror can function either as a traditional mirror or as a camera screen, helping to eliminate obstructions such as rear seat passengers and head restraints while providing a wider, less obstructed rear field of view

The Sierra also offers an expanded suite of active safety features, including lane change alert with side blind zone alert and HD surround vision.

An all-new traction select system allows you to choose from preset drive modes that have been tailored for different terrain or weather conditions. Selecting one of these modes adjusts the transmission shift points, throttle mapping and StabiliTrak to optimize performance for the situation at hand.

Of course, there’s also the next generation of GMC infotainment systems and connectivity.

Under the hood, you get your choice of six different powertrain configurations, including: a 4.3-liter V6 with Active Fuel Management and a six-speed automatic; 5.3-liter V8 with Active Fuel Management and a six-speed automatic; 2.7-liter turbo with Active Fuel Management and an eight-speed automatic; 5.3-liter V8 with new Dynamic Fuel Management and an eight-speed automatic; 6.2-liter V8 with new Dynamic Fuel Management and a 10-speed automatic, and 3.0-liter I6 turbo-diesel and a 10-speed automatic that will be available later in the year.

“We’re also very excited about the new Sierra AT4,” adds Joyce. “It take technology and refinement to a whole new level.”

The new Sierra AT4 offers authentic off-road capability and innovative technology paired with premium refinement. It features a two-inch factory suspension lift, standard 4WD with a two-speed transfer case, locking rear differential, skid plates, Rancho monotube shocks, 18-inch wheels with all-terrain Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires Hill Descent Control, Traction Select System exclusive exterior and interior trim, red vertical recovery hooks and a standard 5.3-liter V8 engine
