As you start to fill up your new 2019 calendar with all those anticipated destination and time-off requests, consider for a moment how you'll get there. The answer lies in the listings of RV Trader: this 1975 GMC Glenbrook. Sure, you could buy a new RV and it will have all the bells and whistles you’d want from your tiny home on wheels, but it won’t have the charm that this ‘70s era RV oozes. Oh yeah, it probably won’t have an Oldsmobile 455 under the engine cover either. Or front-wheel drive.
For those unfamiliar with the GMC Motorhome, an Oldsmobile mill powers the front wheels using a powertrain borrowed from the Oldsmobile Toronado. That means that there’s nothing powering the rear tandem axles, but those both help distribute the hulking weight. Suspending this ’75 GMC is a torsion bar front suspension and a double-ended convoluted airbag suspension out back. That air ride system is also self-leveling with its onboard compressor. The seller notes that the airbags have been repainted.
According to the seller, the motor home has also received a slew of maintenance and upkeep items. Common wear parts like wheel bearings, brakes, belts and hoses have been replaced. The transmission was rebuilt, and a new 3-inch exhaust system was installed. The seller also claims that the interior was redecorated, but it doesn’t look to have been modernized. A new two-way refrigerator and furnace are both advertised, as well as a rebuilt Onan generator, but it’s safe to assume this well-maintained motor home will need some help from time to time.
This Glenbrook is listed for $17,900, which is well under the price of a new RV. Even better, the listing says that the price is negotiable, which means the seller might be more motivated than not.
