Several automakers brought back some nameplates from the dead this year, like BMW the 8-Series and Lincoln the Aviator.
General Motors might join the club as it’s reportedly looking to secure the Envoy moniker. As GMInsideNews revealed, the automotive giant has filed a trademark with the United States Patent Office (USPTO), thus indicating that it may resurrect the SUV.
As per the trademark filing, which covers “motor vehicles, namely, sport utility vehicles, engines therefor and structural parts thereof”, this is highly possible. The Envoy might be underpinned by the front-wheel drive-biased C1XX platform, with optional all-wheel drive, as the Chevrolet Blazer, GMC Acadia and Cadillac XT5 .

If this is indeed the case, then it could also use the 2.5-liter inline-four engine found in the Chevy Blazer that’s making 193 hp (196 PS / 144 kW) and 188 lb-ft (255 Nm) of torque and, possibly, the 3.6-liter V6 that’s rated at 305 hp (309 PS / 227 kW) and 269 lb-ft (365 Nm).
GM’s SUV offensive is believed to continue with yet another high-riding vehicle, the Buick Enspire. The carmaker has already applied for the trademark with the USPTO, and it’s rumored that the production version could arrive next year and be based on the Cadillac XT4’s E2XX architecture.
