Swimming: Wardlaw+Hartridge Standout Logan D'Amore Wins His Fourth GMC Championship - TAPinto.net

EDISON, NJ -- Logan D’Amore of Scotch Plains, a junior at The Wardlaw + Hartridge School in Edison, wasn’t about to leave the GMC Swim Championships without a gold medal. Having just been out-touched by one-hundredth of a second in a dramatic 200 freestyle race in which both swimmers shattered the meet record by 1.9 seconds, Logan roared back and claimed the championship in the 100 freestyle in a time of 47.31.

“I was kind of mad that I didn’t win the race, but it was the fastest 200 that I swam all year so I couldn’t be too upset,” said Logan, who received only 45 minutes of rest between events. “I went out in the time I wanted to in the 200 free and just couldn’t catch him. I wasn’t really rested, so I knew the 100 was going to hurt.”

The GMC title was Logan’s fourth in the past three years. He had previously twice captured gold in the 200 Freestyle and the 500 Freestyle last year as a sophomore. Although he’s not considered a sprinter, He showed his speed by winning his first GMC 100 title. Logan took the lead in the first of four laps and won the race by more than a second.

“I sprinted the first lap and that got me into the sprint mode,” Logan said. “I’m competitive, my whole family is. All the hard work I’m putting into the sport is really worth it.”
