The GMC Sierra HD Denali has some new competition. Ram revealed the HD Longhorn Rodeo model with more luxury for its heavy-duty pickup trucks, and it’s taking the fight directly to GMC.
The Ram Rodeo model specifically adds more premium materials and luxurious looks to either the Ram 3500 or Ram 2500 Longhorn models. Of note, there’s a standard suede headliner that highlights available Canyon Brown/Light Frost Beige and Black/Cattle Tan interior motifs. Outside, the Ram HD Longhorn Rodeo receives special body-color bumpers and side steps, “Longhorn” badging across the rear tailgate and unique 20-inch aluminum wheels with optional painted pockets.
Dual-rear-wheel Ram 3500 models instead receive 17-inch polished aluminum wheels, rather than the large 20-inch wheels.
Aside from the premium fittings, the Ram Rodeo also gains a prep package for 5th-wheel and gooseneck trailer towing, a bed-view camera system for easier alignment for a hitch point, and a load-leveling air suspension is also onboard. Additional equipment includes a Ram skid plate protection group and a Mopar bed step.
The current GMC Sierra Denali HD keeps things competitive with a host of premium amenities and a newer 6.6-liter L5P Duramax turbodiesel V8 engine. The truck was last updated for the 2017 model year. The older HD model will still be sold alongside the brand-new 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 before a new HD model comes.
It’s unclear when GMC will show off its new Sierra HD, but Chevrolet plans to lift the veil on its Heavy Duty model in 2019 sometime.
But, Ram also has a new HD truck in the works after launching the new Ram 1500 earlier this year. The pickup has received tremendously good press and appears to be a legitimate challenger to both Chevrolet and GMC. In the meantime, the older HD trucks will still duke it out, and the Ram Longhorn Rodeo will command a $60,790 (2500 HD) or $71,260 (3500 HD) MSRP before destination.
