After visiting the house of Januz Gonsalves,24, resident of Aldona whose body went missing from GMC morgue, health minister Vishwajit Rane directed the director general of police (DGP) Muktesh Chander to transfer the case to crime branch for free and fair investigation.
Chander had told TOI that Monday he will transfer the case to crime branch.
“Considering the gravity of the offence and to ensure a thorough and more professional investigation of the criminal case registered September 29 at Agacaim police station under section 153-A (b) IPC, stands transferred to Crime Branch, Ribandar, with immediate effect for further investigation,” DGP said.
Section 153-A (b) IPC is applied for any act which is prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony between different religious, racial, language or regional groups or castes or communities, and which disturbs or is likely to disturb the public tranquility.
Chander said that police inspector Agacaim Police Station should at once hand over the case papers and updated case diaries along with the attached muddemal (attached evidence) property if any to the Crime Branch under the intimation to this office.
DGP said Superintendent of Police, Crime Branch shall entrust this case to a competent Police Officer to conduct further investigation of the said case and submit a fortnightly progress report to this office.
