Spotswood 21, Metuchen 6: Scoreless at halftime, Jack Kozak opened the second half with a 65-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to spark Spotswood (1-5).
John Lauro had an interception and returned in 25 yards for the Chargers and two plays later Tallen Smith scored on a seven-yard run to lead Metuchen 14-0.

Metuchen (0-5) scored when Will Hronich threw a 26-yard pass to Colyn Qualls to cut the score to 14-6 as the two-point conversion failed.
In the fourth quarter Spotswood scored again when Mike Harris capped a 12-play drive with a one-yard run for the 21-6 final.
Lauro kicked three extra points and Smith finished with an interception. Eddie Rodgers and Yamil Aguirre each had two sacks. Connor Johnson had a fumble recovery.
"Mike Harris played a great game at running back, Lauro was great at guard and Rodgers switched to receiver for us and he’s just done everything, he’s selfless and he made a big impact on defense and we had a complete win," Spotswood coach Andy Cammarano said. "I’m proud of the seniors, they had a rough start to the season and they didn’t make it an issue at all. They had a good practice week and I’m really proud. We had competitive, physical game, a good complete game and I’m hoping it gets easier after this."
Hillside 40, South River 13: Steven Lakatos scored on a seven-yard run and Michael DeSantis scored on a three-yard run for South River (3-3). DeSantis finished 5-of-11 for 26 yards and one interception. He also rushed 14 times for 54 yards and kicked one extra point. Billy Drum rushed 32 times for 146 yards. Steven Rodriguez recorded four tackles and one interception. Michael Watsey led the defense with seven tackles.
