South Brunswick 27, East Brunswick 14: Katibu Martin scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter as South Brunswick rallied for the Red Division win.

East Brunswick scored twice in the third quarter to take a 14-7 lead in the upset bid. Early in the fourth, Martin scored on a one-yard run and the Vikings missed the PAT to cut the deficit to 14-13. With four minutes remaining, Martin punched in the score on a 5-yard run. Mitchell Fisher’s extra point gave South Brunswick the 20-14 lead.

On the Bears' possession, South Brunswick recovered a fumble. Vikings coach Joe Goerge said they were trying to run out the clock on the ground. Martin, however, broke for approximately a 35-yard scamper for a touchdown with 1:09 left to seal the Vikings' 27-14 win.

“Listen they had everything going their way at 14-7,” Goerge said. “Like I said, it was a struggle. It was a battle and for us and Katibu really played big.”

In the Trojans shutout, Santiago led the unit with six tackles -- two for a loss -- and an interception.  The defense registered five sacks with Josh Perez and Darrell Dorrah each registering one and a half sacks apiece. Bishop Ahr (4-2 overall) is now 3-0 in GMC Gold Division play.

South Plainfield 15, North Hunterdon 14: Trailing 8-0 with two minutes left, South Plainfield scored in the final minute of regulation and rallied in overtime to pull out the road win. Ashwin DeGroot had a 2-point conversion run, blocked an extra point in OT and kicked the game-winning PAT.

“No one gave us a chance being a Group III school and they’re the defending Group IV (North 2) state champs,” Tigers coach Gary Cassio said. “Everybody felt bad for us we were playing this game. ... I’m very proud of them. They didn’t quit.”

With 2:20 left in the fourth quarter, South Plainfield drove from midfield to score with 50 seconds remaining on a Zach DelVecchio five-yard run. DeGroot added the 2-point conversion scamper to tie the game 8-8 and send it into overtime.

South Plainfield won the coin toss and deferred the first possession. After North Hunterdon scored, DeGroot blocked the extra point as the Lions led 14-8. South Plainfield scored on its possession on a 10-yard boot leg from quarterback Sammy Nieves and DeGroot hit the extra point for the 15-14 win.

Defensively, Dondre' Tate had two interceptions while Luke Niemeyer and TJ Massaro, among others, had good games.

“In the fourth quarter, they started believing in themselves,” Cassio said. “They were making the stops, they were getting excited.”

Woodbridge 53, Monroe 6: Ali Lee scored a 68-yard touchdown run on Monroe’s first carry to set the tone as the Barrons defeated Monroe in a GMC White Division game.

Lee finished with 181 rushing yards on eight carries with three touchdowns as Woodbridge led 40-0 at halftime. Ke'Sean Glover rushed for three touchdowns including an 88-yarder and finished with 166 yards on eight carries. He also had 80 return yards and a catch for 19 yards.

Lee also scored on a 55-yard interception return and teammate Ethan Thomas finished the scoring with a 6-yard run in the second half.

“The offensive line did a great job of opening holes,” Woodbridge coach Joe LaSala said. “It was a good team victory for everybody."

The Barrons (2-4) rebounded from three straight tough losses against quality teams.

“The kids were frustrated, but they continued to kind of stay the course and work hard,” LaSala said. “Tonight they were locked in like they were all week. … I’m really just proud of the kids all around and they deserve it. They deserved the win.”

Piscataway 46, Perth Amboy 6: Joey Bellamy returned consecutive punts of 38 and 64 yards for touchdowns and added a TD catch to lead Piscataway in the Red Division win.

Bernards 35, South River 32: In a shootout, South River led 26-20 at halftime, but Bernards rallied in the fourth quarter fueled by a key late defensive stop to pull out the GMC/Mid-State Conference crossover win.

The Rams got the ball back with about five minutes remaining down by three and drove it to the Bernards’ six-yard line.  On fourth down, the Mountaineers stopped South River to seal the win.

In a balanced offensive attack, quarterback Michael DeSantis rushed for 75 yards on 16 carries and two touchdowns (11 and 5 yards). In the air, he went 7-of-12 for 100 yards and threw a 13-yard touchdown to Daniel Pou-Collazo.

Butler 38, Dunellen 12: The Destroyers scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to avert a shutout.

Joe Olsommer had both Dunellen scores. He found the end zone on a 12-yard run and on a 10-yard run. Both conversion attempts failed.

The Destroyers rushed 57 times for 186 yards as Butler’s defense kept Dunellen’s impressive ground game in check.

J.F. Kennedy 15, Montgomery 8: Trailing 8-7, J.F. Kennedy put together a 19-play, 81-yard drive capped by David Lee’s two-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter to pull out the non-conference win over Montgomery of the Mid-State Conference.

Lee, the quarterback, rushed for 85 yards on 23 carries and two touchdowns, and the Mustangs recovered two key fumbles. Damon Washington had several hurries on defense and Phil Lenzy had three sacks.

“I’m very proud how good the kids played,” J.F. Kennedy football coach Peter Christathakis said. “It was a good win for the program. … The defense played solid all night, they showed up big in big-time situations. The defense was due to have a good game.”

On the game’s first drive, J.F. Kennedy’s Keyshawn Dixon recovered a fumble around the 35-yard line. A few plays later, Lee rushed for a 25-yard touchdown on the QB option play and kicked the PAT to give the Mustangs the early 7-0 lead.

After a scoreless second quarter, Montgomery (1-4) took an 8-7 lead in the third quarter on a 43-yard pass.

The Mustangs (2-3) then put together their long scoring drive, which included Dennis Howard catching passes of 13 and 17 yards on third downs. He finished with five catches for 70 yards.

After Lee’s two-yard touchdown, he threw a two-point conversion pass to Allen Hill for a 15-8 Mustangs lead.

On Montgomery’s possession, Maven Garced forced a fumble that Lee recovered on his team's 38-yard line. The Mustangs punted after an eight-play drive, but forced a quick Montgomery punt. J.F. Kennedy was able to get two first downs and run the clock out for the win.

“The kids played very disciplined,” Christathakis said. “We came in with a pretty good game plan and we executed well in all aspects of the game.”

North Brunswick 40, New Brunswick 12: Myles Bailey returned from a shin injury and rushed for 184 yards on 16 carries and two touchdowns as the Raiders won the GMC White Division game.

In last week’s 27-7 win over Woodbridge, Bailey injured his shin in the first quarter and didn’t return.  Friday, he showed he was back right away. Defensively, Chris Arnold had 8.5 tackles with Gede Mercellius (5.5 tackles), Tyrell Perreria (5.5 tackles) and Sean Breheny (5 tackles) also had big games. Outlaw added an interception.

North Brunswick coach Mike Cipot was pleased with the Raiders offensive line and defensive play, noting, "it's the third straight game we played fast and physical."
