1. East Brunswick (12-2): The Bears have won three straight since enduring a 4-3 loss to Old Bridge. East Brunswick opens the week with a series against South Brunswick. Mike Falco (3-1, 2.91) and Joseph Petrocelli (4-0, 2.47) pace the Bears on the mound. James Schuld (.409) leads East Brunswick in hits (18), doubles (8), homers (2), RBI (16) and is second on the club in runs (14). Jacob Bauman (.500), Diego Garcia Ceballos (.455), Brandon Rosenthal (.389), David Bermudez (.372) and Mike Sutton (.333) all have 10 or more hits.

2. Colonia (11-4): The Patriots, whose losses this season are each by a single run, have won four or their last five. Colonia opens the week with a series against Piscataway, which has dropped its last four. Following a 12-11 loss to Westfield, the Colonia pitching staff has allowed just two runs over the last five games. Ace Chris Michael (2-1, 0.42) boasts one of the more impressive stat lines among pitchers statewide. Michael has fanned 35 batters and walked just three in a team-high 33 and a third innings, during which he has allowed only two runs.

3. St. Joseph (9-7): The Falcons dropped a 5-0 decision on Saturday to Seton Hall Prep, the first team to shut out St. Joseph since April 21, 2017 when Pope John blanked the defending conference tournament champions. In the defeat, senior center fielder Jon Sot extended his hitting streak, which dates back to last season, to 22 games. St. Joseph has won four of its last six. The Falcons commence this week with a series against Perth Amboy.

4. Middlesex (13-2): The Blue Jays had their winning streak snapped at 13 games in Saturday’s 4-2 loss to resurgent South Plainfield, which has won its last five in a row. Middlesex commences the week with a series against Spotswood, and can clinch the Blue Division title with a sweep of the Chargers. The Blue Jays are batting .340 as a team, a 30-point improvement over last season, and boast a 2.30 team ERA, another 30-point improvement from a year ago. Nine players have 11 or more hits. Jared Venutolo is batting a team-high .477 with 21 hits. Jarret May paces the team with 18 RBI and Tyrus Chippendale leads the club with 16 runs.  

5. South Brunswick (10-6): The Vikings have won nine of their last 11 with the two losses by a combined three runs including a 4-3 setback to defending sectional champion Governor Livingston and a 4-2 defeat to incumbent conference tournament finalist Monroe. Jacob Ciccone (0.58) and Marcus James (0.88) anchor a pitching staff that boasts a 1.86 team ERA. Ciccone has fanned 39 batters and James has whiffed 26. Mike Reyes (.481) leads the club in hits (21), doubles (4) and RBI (14). Felix Quinones (.417) is second on the team with 17 hits.

6. Monroe (7-4): The Falcons have won five of their last seven. Despite batting .250 as a team, Monroe has registered timely hits. Pitching continues to keep the Falcons in games. Nick Payero (3-2, 0.85), Vinnie Abene Jr. (1-2, 1.75) and Anthony Bruno (2-0, 2.15) lead Monroe’s staff. Payero (.324) is the lone regular batting above .300. Chris Stepnowski and Sean Saviano are tops on the team with nine RBI apiece. Bryant Skurbe is second on the team in hits (10). Monroe opens the week with a series against Edison.

7. North Brunswick (11-5): The Raiders have won five of their last six. Christian Petrillo (19), Andrew Tan (18), Danny Reardon (18), Caleb Rodriguez (16) and Dylan Glassman (15) lead the team in hits and are all batting over .326. Reardon (4-0, 1.73) and Stephen Mihalenko (3-1, 1.91) are the club’s top pitchers. North Brunswick will test itself out of division this week against South Brunswick and Middlesex.

8. South Plainfield (9-7): Using a 19-16 victory over defending state Group IV champion Millburn as a springboard, the Tigers have won their last five games. The pitching staff has allowed a total of four runs in three of those victories. Shortstop Mike Stanczak has a pair of two-home run games during the current winning streak. South Plainfield opens the week with a series against Woodbridge.

9. Sayreville (8-7): The Bombers have won four of their last six. Ace Christian Aich is 4-1 with a 2.77 ERA. Bryan Fernandez leads the team with 21 hits, four homers, 17 RBI and a .438 batting average. Kyle Richards (.400) and Drew Zimmerman (.356) are Sayreville’s other top hitters. Sayreville begins the week with a series against J.F. Kennedy.

10T. Woodbridge (10-5): The Barrons had a four-game winning streak snapped in a series loss to Sayreville. Woodbridge looks to rebound with a week-opening series against South Plainfield. Michael Medvetz (.500) paces the club offensively, leading Woodbridge in hits (21), RBI (20), runs (14), doubles (7), triples (2), homers (3) and batting average (.500). Darren Gonzalez (.394) and Jack Golden (.352) are the club’s other top hitters. Robert Nunez (4-0, 2.63) and Zach Delvalle (2-3, 3.00) have each thrown 29 and a third innings. Joe Muccilli is 2-1 with a team-leading 2.10 ERA over 16 and two thirds frames.

10T. Old Bridge (7-10): The Knights, whose nonconference schedule is the second most difficult among all league members, have dropped six of their last eight. Old Bridge split a series with East Brunswick and St. Joseph during that stretch. Connor Freel (3-0, 1.72) has been the club’s most effective hurler, fanning 20 and allowing six earned runs over 24 and a third innings. Old Bridge starts this week with a series against J.P. Stevens.

10T. Spotswood (8-3): The defending Blue Division Chargers, who have not played a game since April 22, commence a big week with a series against division-leading Middlesex. Spotswood is scheduled to play a game daily through Saturday. The stretch will test a pitching staff that sports a 2.03 team ERA. Ace Matt Vento is 2-0 with a 0.35 mark. Mike Izzo leads the team in hits (15) and batting average (.395). Vento is the top run-producer with 14 RBI. Derek Buhl has scored a team-high 11 runs.

10T. Metuchen (9-4): Since opening the year 3-4, Metuchen has rebounded to win its last six, outscoring teams 73-15 during that stretch. The young middle infield of sophomore shortstop Jay Harry, a Penn State University commit, and freshman second baseman Gavin Abrams complements a veteran lineup that features incumbent first-team All-Area selections Mike Lapczynski and Matt Volpe. Matt Rowe, another freshman, is also having a stellar year. Metuchen starts the week with a series against Carteret.
