South Brunswick 4, South Plainfield 0: The streaking Vikings, who have won three straight and four of their last five, plated three runs in the fifth inning to break a scoreless tie and Marcus James made the rally stand with a complete-game shutout.
James fanned nine, scattered three hits and walked one while throwing a 95-pitch masterpiece.
Jacob Ciccone, Mike Reyes and Mike D’Amato each had an RBI. Jason Seliger-Braun, Felix Quinones, Will Beck and D’Amato each scored a run. Reyes (2-for-3) was the lone player to record a multiple-hit game.
During its winning streak, South Brunswick pitchers have combined to allow just one run over 21 innings.
East Brunswick 19, Piscataway 8: James Schuld went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and five RBI to pace a 10-hit attack as the Bears won a slugfest.
Schuld’s first-inning grand slam gave East Brunswick a short-lived 4-0 lead. Piscataway rallied for four runs in the bottom of the frame and two more in the ensuing inning to take a short-lived 6-4 advantage.
East Brunswick rallied for six runs in the third and put up a nine spot in the fifth to invoke the mercy rule. Jacob Bauman (3-for-4 with a double) and David Bermudez (2-for-4 with a double) combined for five runs and two RBI. They were the only other Bears to register multi-hit games.
Mike Sutton contributed a homer and three runs scored to the victory. The Bears also benefited from 10 walks.
Piscataway was limited to five hits including Jordin Martell’s homer and Ro Morris’ double. Both players went 2-for-3 and combined to score three runs. Martell finished with five RBI.
Winning pitcher Joseph Petrocelli went the distance. He fanned three, walked five and allowed five earned runs.
North Brunswick 5, Old Bridge 4: Andrew Tan went 2-for-3 with two RBI in support of winning pitcher Mike Scimone, who went the distance.
Scimone scattered seven hits, fanned seven and did not walk a batter while throwing an economical 88 pitches.
North Brunswick, which took a 3-2 lead into the sixth innings, rallied for two paramount insurance runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 5-2 advantage. Old Bridge scored twice in the top of the seventh to produce the final margin.
Dylan Glassman and Scimone (1-for-2) each had an RBI and a run scored for the Raiders (4-3). Teammates Kelson Hopson and Caleb Rodriguez each went 1-for-3. Tan doubled for North Brunswick’s lone extra-base hit.
Sonny Fauci cracked a solo homer for Old Bridge (4-3), which has lost two straight. Teammate Elliot Hayward tripled and scored a run. Mike Olvia went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI for the Knights.
A St. John’s University commit, Fauci went the distance, scattering five hits, fanning four and walking one. Alienated by a defense that committed five errors, he allowed three unearned runs.
Middlesex 5, South River 4: For the second straight day against the Rams, Middlesex scored in its final at-bat to complete a series sweep.
Jared Venutolo, who doubled, scored the decisive run on Jared Zimbardo’s single to snap a 4-4 tie.
Middlesex (5-1), which has won five straight, rallied for three runs in the fifth to forge the 4-4 tie. After Tyrus Chippendale (2-for-4) and Venutolo (3-for-4) singled, Jarrett May delivered a two-run double and later scored on a throwing error.
Winning pitcher Pat Kannaley went the distance, fanning five and walking one. Middlesex was outhit 8-5.
Kyle French (1-for-3) had two RBI for South River (0-4), while teammate Brandon Szerszen went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. RJ Rischer doubled, scored a run and had an RBI in a losing effort.
Nick Razzano wnt the distance for the Rams, fanning two and walking two while allowing four earned runs.
Sayreville 11, Bishop Ahr 3: Bryan Fernandez went 3-for-4 with two homers and four RBI as the Bombers (3-3) handed the Trojans (1-4) their fourth straight loss.
Drew Zimmerman hurled four innings to earn the victory. Michael Romanello pitched three scoreless innings of relief, allowing one hit.
Jame Ryan went 2-for-4 for Sayreville, which scored single runs in the second and third innings to break a 3-3 tie. Bishop Ahr was outhit 9-6.
Rich Albrecht, Kyle Orta and Joe Mauro each went 2-for-3 for the Trojans. Albrecht and Orta scored one run each, while Mauro delivered an RBI.
Spotswood 5, Metuchen 2: The Chargers (4-1) scored five times in the top of the seventh to erase a two-run deficit and complete a series sweep of the Bulldogs (2-2).
Spotswood’s Evan Scarduffa and Metuchen’s Will Hronich traded zeroes until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Bulldogs snapped the scoreless deadlock.
Gavin Abrams led off with a walk and took third on Mike Lapczynski’s single to right. Matt Volpe followed with a sacrifice fly. Jay Harry capped the rally with an RBI single.
Hronich coasted into the seventh inning with a two-hitter. The Chargers scored their first run on an infield error and forged a 2-2 tie on Matt Veno’s fielder’s choice on which he beat out an attempted double play. Vin Guardiola followed with a two-run triple to deep center, giving Spotswood a 4-2 lead. Dylan Seel capped the rally with a run-scoring single over the head of Metuchen’s first baseman.
Matt Amador, who pitched a scoreless seventh in the series opener, retired the Bulldogs in order in the seventh to earn the win in his second straight relief appearance.
Lapczynski finished 2-for-3. Hronich fanned four and walked seven over six innings before yielding to a reliever.
Scarduffa struck out four, walked one and scattered five hits through five frames.
J.F. Kennedy 3, Edison 1: Winning pitcher Chris Russo went the distance, scattering three hits, striking out two and walking one in an economical 73-pitch effort.
Edison (2-3) plated its lone run in the top of the fourth inning to break a scoreless tie.Evrin Virola scored an unearned run.
The Mustangs (2-4) rallied for three runs in the home sixth. Gianni Tavarez had a two-run single, while Vinnie Powers played J.F. Kennedy's other run.
Hard-luck losing pitcher Nico Chipoco allowed four hits in a complete-game effort. He walked eight and fanned four.
The teams combined for seven hits.
Carteret 5, New Brunswick 1: The Ramblers scored two runs in the first and two runs in the second off starting pitcher Gabe Otero.
Wilson Gomez entered in relief and limited Carteret to one run the rest of the way.
