GMC women's golf signs another student-athlete

Georgia Military College women's golf officially added another student-athlete for the program on National Signing Day.

It was an exciting day all around the country as high school student-athletes made their choices and commitments official to institutions of higher learning.

Abigail Summersill is now a proud member of the new fledgling golf program at Georgia Military College.

"I am very, very excited to add Abigail to our roster for the new program in the fall. There is a lot of energy and enthusiasm behind the starting of the program and I am very confident that she will come in and immediately make an impact with the team. She is hard at work on her game and will be ready to lead the charge for the new program in the fall,” said head coach Sean Gillespie.

Summersill hails from Trinity Christian Academy, a college preparatory school in Jacksonville, Fla. She started playing golf at age 14, her freshman year, and was the first female to make the boys golf team at Trinity Christian Academy. She finished third in the district tournament that year and made it to regionals. She continued improving over the years and finished second in the district tournament her sophomore, junior and senior year and moved on to regionals in all three years. Her scoring average this past season for nine holes was a 42, with a 38 being her personal best, and an 81 as a career low for 18.

Prior to playing golf, Summersill played softball and soccer. With her golf season having just wrapped up, her plan is to play tournament golf with the NFJG (North Florida Junior Golf) tour until she starts college next fall.

Not only is Summersill actively involved in getting better on the golf course, she has taken the time to serve her community through the Celebration Church Kids Ministry as well has having served on multiple community outreaches including school supply drives, food pantry and taking Christmas to families in need.

"We are very fortunate here at GMC to have support from our leadership at the executive level to continue to grow our athletic department. Women's golf was an easy choice and we are pleased with the response of those already committed and those that are still considering. Abigail will have a unique opportunity as a freshman to come in and stamp her mark on the program as well as be a pioneer of sorts with this new program. Welcome to the Bulldog Family, Abigail,” Gillespie said.
