TOWN OF EMMET – Two people died on Sunday after a three vehicle crash on Highway R near Highway EM.
According to a press release from the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 5:37 p.m.
The preliminary investigation shows that a GMC Jimmy was traveling eastbound on Highway R in the westbound lane. The GMC struck a westbound Ford Ranger head on east of Highway EM. A Chevrolet Trailblazer that was traveling westbound behind the Ford Ranger stuck both vehicles. The female driver of the GMC and male driver of the Ford were pronounced dead at the scene by the Dodge County Medical Examiner. There were no passengers inside those vehicles.
According to the sheriff’s office, there were three occupants of the Chevrolet. All three received non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Aurora Medical Center in Summit.
The names involved are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Assisting at the scene were Dodge County Crash Investigation Team, Lebanon Fire Department and EMS, Dodge County Medical Examiner, Watertown Fire Department Paramedics, Dodge County Sheriff’s Office Chaplain and Dodge County Emergency Response Team.
Dodge County had 20 people who died in traffic accidents in 2017, The number is almost double the lives lost during traffic accidents on Dodge County highways in 2011-15. In 2016, 12 people died in traffic accidents in Dodge County.
