1. South Brunswick (11-1): The Vikings rebounded from a Week 3 loss to Piscataway to win their last nine games en route to claiming their third Central Group V title in six years with a thrilling 18-14 comeback victory over previously undefeated Manalapan.
2. Old Bridge (8-3): The Knights registered key road victories over Piscataway and Sayreville to claim a share of the Red Division title. Old Bridge lost twice to South Brunswick, including a 21-10 playoff setback in which it squandered a halftime lead, and fell to sectional finalist Manalapan.
3. Piscataway (8-3): With conference-leading rusher Juwon Jackson paving the way, the Chiefs claimed a share of the Red Division championship with their lone division blemish a loss to Old Bridge. Piscataway’s other defeats came to sectional finalists Bridgewater-Raritan and Manalapan.
4. St. Joseph (9-1): The Falcons rolled to their second consecutive White Division title while extending their regular-season unbeaten streak to 19 games under rookie head coach Rich Hilliard. St. Joseph’s season ended with a deceptive 35-7 loss to Paramus Catholic in the Non-Public Group IV playoffs.
5. Sayreville (6-5): The Bombers lost to reigning sectional champions South Brunswick and North Hunterdon. They lost by identical 22-21 scores in overtime to Old Bridge and in double overtime to Brick Memorial. They squandered a fourth-quarter lead in a 12-6 loss to Piscataway. Workhorse back Connor Holmes led the conference with 198 carries and finished with 1,281 rushing yards.
6. Colonia (7-3): The Patriots finished second in the White Division with their lone division loss to reigning division champion St. Joseph. Colonia’s other setbacks were to perennial state power Red Bank Catholic and in the playoffs to Sayreville. Luke Pero eclipsed the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the second straight year.
7. North Brunswick (6-4): The Raiders snapped a five-year playoff drought, won as many games this season as they won in the last four years combined and posted their first winning record since 2010 under rookie head coach Mike Cipot.
8. Middlesex (11-1): The Blue Jays, who finished 1-9 a year ago, claimed their first sectional championship since 1984, defeating Point Pleasant Beach for the Central Group I crown. Middlesex amassed 3,678 rushing yards out of its vaunted triple-option.
9. South River (9-1): With Michael Desantis passing for a league-leading 1,845 yards and 21 touchdowns, South River won its first Blue Division title since 2013 and went undefeated in the regular season for the first time in 17 years. The Rams’ lone loss was to reigning sectional champion Hillside.
10. Carteret (5-5): With the exception of losses to reigning White Division champion St. Joseph and sectional finalist Rumson-Fair Haven, the Ramblers were in every game. Rookie quarterback Zamar Brake was the league’s second leading passer with 1,762 yards and 14 touchdowns.
