Shortly after the premieres of the technically related Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, GMC took the wraps off its next-gen Yukon SUV.
The car mainly differs from its abovementioned ‘relatives’ in terms of front end design, although the brake lights are also new. Inside, the steering wheel has been replaced with a different version and a storage box added between the front seats. The luxury trim, Denali, has gained more standard equipment and a brand-new interior trim with plenty of leather and wood used throughout.
The standard spec encompasses adaptive suspension, an all-around view system based on nine cameras, and a 15-inch projection display. Paid options include a panoramic glass roof, a two-speed transfer case, electronic rear diff lock, and height-adjustable air suspension.
Just like the GMC Canyon truck, the Yukon receives a new version called AT4 in the latest generation. This one comes with enhanced defensive plating at the bottom, air suspension struts, hill descent assist, and Jet Black/Brandy cabin trim. The radiator grille additionally receives a dark bezel, and the front bumper gets fitted with red towing eyes.
Customers will be able to choose from three available engines. One is a 5.3-liter gasoline V8 good for 360 hp (268 kW) and 519 Nm (383 lb-ft). Another is its larger counterpart with 6.2 liters of displacement and 426 hp (318 kW), as well as 623 Nm (459 lb-ft). The third option is a three-liter diesel with 281 hp (210 kW) and the same 623 Nm (459 lb-ft) of torque. The transmission is ten-speed automatic in all versions, and while the drive stays on the rear axle by default, you may opt for AWD.
The GMC Yukon will enter production in Arlington, Texas, USA, where Chevrolets are also made. First shipments are expected this summer.
In related news, the new Cadillac Escalade SUV should debut soon based on the same platform.
