For years, the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra have trailed behind the Ford F-150 in terms of sales. More recently, the all-new Ram 1500 even surpassed the Silverado 1500 for the second-place slot. GM wasn't happy, to say the least. But there is some good news following the results of the third-quarter sales report. For starters, there was a 6.3 percent increase for GM's overall sales during that time for a grand total of 738,638 units sold.
Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra sales increased by 16.62 and 28.87 percent, respectively, with a total of 155,482 Silverados and 66,198 Sierras sold in the US. While that puts the Silverado and Sierra in third and fourth place behind the F-150 and Ram 1500, there's still a reason for GM to celebrate.
Cumulatively, the Silverado and Sierra (1500, 2500, and 3500) outsold the Ford F-Series, which includes the F-150, F-250, F-350, and F-450. Total tally: 221,680 vs. 214,176. Meanwhile, Ram managed to shift 161,635 units.
