The 2020 GMC Sierra HD is all-new this year with more capability than ever along with the features you need to make towing safer and easier. This heavy-duty truck has you covered whether it’s getting through the workday, having a little fun off-road, or a night out on the town.
It’s all about finding the right truck for you with a choice of regular, double, or crew cabs, gas or diesel engines, two bed sizes, and a range of five capable trims. These include the luxury-minded Denali for those who want a more upscale experience and the new AT4 for off-roaders. In between, there’s a Sierra HD trim that’s perfect for your specific needs.
Your first engine option is a 6.6-liter V8 with 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission. It has a maximum payload of up to 7,442 pounds with max trailering of up to 17,400. There’s also a 6.6-liter V8 turbodiesel with 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission. It has a maximum payload of 6,532 pounds and max trailering of up to 35,500 pounds.
No matter which engine you choose, the 2020 GMC Sierra HD is a capable truck with a wide range of features designed to make towing easier and safer. For starters, there’s an enhanced ProGrade Trailering System with 15 different camera views including a transparent trailer view that lets you virtually see through the trailer.
There’s an available In-Command control system, which lets you do things like turn on the air conditioning before you reach your destination so your trailer is cool when you arrive, check the water and holding tank levels, and even monitor fuel levels in trailers with generators. It can be controlled either through the in-vehicle infotainment system or through the myGMC app on compatible smartphones.
The ProGrade Trailering System also includes a trailering app that lets you do a light test without the help of a second person, check the trailer tire pressure, and make sure your trailer is ready to go with a customizable departure checklist. Like the In-Command control system, the trailering app can be accessed through the infotainment system or through the myGMC mobile app. GMC knows you’ll be towing if you buy a heavy-duty truck, so it equipped the Sierra HD with thoughtful features to make the process stress-free.
The MultiPro tailgate first introduced on the Sierra light-duty is also available on the heavy-duty version of this truck. This unique six-function tailgate is standard on the SLT, AT4, and Denali. It includes a primary tailgate, a smaller inner tailgate, and a load stop. Depending on how it’s deployed, it can act as a place to sit, a step up into the bed, and even as a standing workstation.
When it comes to trims, there are two that stand out from the pack. First, there’s the all-new off-road ready AT4 starting at $59,295, which has dark chrome finishes and improved capability. It has an off-road suspension system with Rancho shocks, skid plates, and a locking rear differential. There’s also a traction select system with an off-road setting, hill descent control, and hill start assist to manage steep surfaces.
GMC reserves the Denali badge for is most well-equipped and luxurious trims. The Sierra HD, which is priced from $65,295, includes premium leather seating surfaces, open-pore wood, and dark aluminum interior finishes. There are 10-way power front seats, a seven-speaker Bose sound system, heated front and rear outboard seats, and wireless charging.
The 2020 GMC Sierra HD combines the capability of a heavy-duty truck with a range of trims to suit a variety of needs. Whether you want a pure work truck, one that can go off-road, or something luxurious, there’s a version of the Sierra HD for you. Watch for its arrival at your local dealership in the coming weeks.
