Every GMC Model Will Have AT4 Variant By 2021 - GM Authority

In just two years’ time, every model in the GMC lineup will offer an AT4 trim level, as confirmed by GMC in a recent press release.

For those who may be unaware, the GMC AT4 models were first launched by the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500. The 2020 GMC Acadia was next in line to receive the AT4 treatment, followed by the 2020 GMC Sierra HD. Critically, all three GMC models that currently offer an AT4 variant were also previously offered as All Terrain variants, which AT4 replaced.

Acadia joins Sierra 1500 and Sierra Heavy Duty as the newest addition to the AT4 sub-brand, which will be available across the entire GMC lineup in the next two years,” the press release reads (emphasis ours).

That leaves the Terrain, Canyon, and Yukon as the last remaining models to receive GMC AT4 trim levels. Critically, all three have not offered All Terrain or AT4 variants.

The timing on all this lines up quite nicely. The Terrain is slated for a refresh in 2021 (see more on the 2021 GMC Terrain), while Canyon will get a small update and new fascia for 2021. Finally, the Yukon will get a complete overhaul for 2021 (see more on 2021 GMC Yukon). All of these updates provide the perfect opportunity to introduce a new GMC AT4 trim level across the board.

Now, there is a bit of an elephant in the room, and that’s the GMC Savana, the brand’s full-size cargo, passenger, and cutaway van. Odds are that GMC neglected to think of the Savana when it stated that an AT4 trim level “will be available across the entire GMC lineup in the next two years,” as we don’t believe that there would be a Savana AT4.

That said, who wouldn’t want a jacked-up, knobby-tired, rough-and-rugged cargo van? We’re imagining a lifted version of the vehicle that the A-Team drove. Who’s with us?
