J.P. Stevens 5, Piscataway 3: Winning pitcher Shiv Patel went the distance and helped his own cause, going 2-or-3 with a double and two RBI as the Hawks (5-2) won their second straight to take possession of third place in the GMC Red Division.

Patel struck out three, walked none and allowed two earned runs on 11 hits in a 104-pitch outing.

The Chiefs, who fell to 3-3, stranded a total of seven runners and could not overcome a 5-1 fifth-inning deficit.

Travis Ling (2-for-4 with a run) was the only other Hawks to have a multi-hit game. Brandon Fong doubled and scored a run for J.P. Stevens, which took a 3-0 lead in the first inning.

Matt Belford and Chris Lowry each went 2-for-4 with a run scored for Piscataway. Lowry and teammate Cam Bender each had an RBI. Rob Kuderka went 2-for-3 and Ro Morris had a hit and a run scored for the Chiefs.

Hard-luck losing pitcher Matt Hanzich allowed five runs, only three of which were earned, over five innings. He fanned six, waked four and allowed seven hits.

Joey Young and Steven Zederbaum each went 1-for-3 for the Hawks.
