North Brunswick 1, Colonia 0: Christian Petrillo hurled a complete-game shutout, striking out six, scattering four hits and walking two as the Patriots were blanked for the second straight outing.

Andrew Tan scored the game’s lone run in the sixth inning. Dylan Farrell, Caleb Rodriguez, Stefan Rojas-Ayala, Petrillo and Tan each had a hit off Colonia ace Nick Nielson.

Nielson fanned six, allowed five hits and walked two over seven innings.

Matt Flammia, Nick Scherb and Kenny Shinski had hits for Colonia.

Edison 3, South Plainfield 2: Dom LaPelosa and Nico Chipoco combined on a four-hit gem as the unranked Eagles stunned the second-ranked and previously unbeaten Tigers, who are the defending conference tournament champions.

Nico Lopez legged out a run-scoring infield single in the top of the fourth inning, plating what proved to be the decisive run as Edison took a 3-1 lead.

The Eagles (3-0) scored their first run in the opening frame on a wild pitch. They scored their second run in the ensuing inning on a sacrifice fly.

LaPelosa allowed three singles and a double over four and a third innings. He fanned three, walked one and allowed two runs (one earned).

Chipoco hurled two and two thirds innings of no-hit relief. He issued a two-out walk to the No. 8 batter, who stole second, in the seventh, but induced the next hitter into a game-ending popup.

Walker Zampella went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored for Edison. Teammate Sal Della Fave had a hit and an RBI. Evrin Virola contributed two hits and two runs scored to the win.

Losing pitcher Rob Gonzalez allowed three earned runs on four hits and three walks. He fanned 10 over six innings and threw 105 pitches.

Brody Donovan had an RBI for the Tigers (3-1), who scored single runs in the third and fourth innings.

Woodridge 2, Sayreville 1: Joe Muccilli hurled a complete-game three-hitter, striking out four without issuing a walk, as the Barrons won their second one-run game of the season.

Rob Nunez delivered an RBI double in the second inning for Woodbridge. Muccilli plated what proved to be the game-winning run with a single in the third.

Sayreville ace Christian Aich went the distance, scattering seven hits and allowing two earned runs.

Ethan Calcano tripled and scored for Sayreville.

J.F. Kennedy 11, South River 10: After rolling to mercy-rule victories during a series sweep of New Brunswick, against which they scored 45 runs, the Mustangs needed a walkoff hit from Michael Mantagas to edge South River.

Mantagas (4-for-4) and Nick Popo (2-for-3) combined for half of J.F. Kennedy’s hits. The duo combined for five doubles. Adalberto Sanchez contributed three RBI to the win and Allen Hill laced a triple.

Mantagas allowed eight runs (six earned) on 10 hits and a walk over four innings. Hill and Calvin Claiborne combined to pitch the final three frames, allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit and a walk.

Chris Braberio collected two hits, two RBI and scored a run for South River. Nick Razzano (2-for-5 with a run) and Billy Drum (2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI) each doubled for the Rams.

South River starter Michael DeSantis threw 103 pitches before yielding to a reliever. He fanned five, walked two, scattered eight hits and allowed nine runs (three earned) over three and two thirds innings.

Gianni Tavarez had two RBI and a hit for J.F. Kennedy, while teammate Ryan Samaroo scored twice.

Middlesex 6, Union 0: Kevin Reynolds went 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI to back the pitching of Matt Holmes, who hurled a complete-game shutout against Union, which NJ.com ranks 20th in the state.

Holmes struck out one, walked one and scattered eight hits in an economical 71-pitch effort. The win was the first of his varsity career.

Middlesex was outhit 8-6 but benefitted from five Union errors. Only four of the runs in the game were earned.

The defending Group I champion Blue Jays (4-0) scored all their runs in the second inning.

Jared Zimbardo (1-for-4) and Raiden Yost (1-for-3) each had an RBI.

Old Bridge 3, J.P. Stevens 0: Senior lefthander Joe Krause, illustrating Old Bridge’s mound depth, hurled the first no-hitter in the conference this season, doing so with four strikeouts.

All that prevented Krause from a perfect game were the three walks he issued to a J.P. Stevens team that entered the contest with an unblemished 3-0 record that includes a season-opening sweep of three-time defending Red Division champion East Brunswick.

Old Bridge scored all its runs in the fifth inning off hard-luck losing pitcher Shiv Patel, who scattered eight hits, fanned five and walked two.

Danny Chiofalo, Brandon Mark and Chris Picariello each had an RBI for the Knights, who improved to 2-1.

Sonny Fauci (2-for-3) was the only player to have a multiple-hit game. Elliot Hayward, Matt Flores, Dean Wiatroski, Chiofalo and Picariello each had a hit.

Krause threw an economical 87 pitches.

Piscataway 3, South Brunswick 2: The Chiefs rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth and reliever Gage Bendix hurled a perfect seventh as they rallied for a huge Red Division win.

Ro Morris led off the sixth with a walk and Chris Lowry followed with a single. Jordin Martell erased a 2-0 deficit on a two-run double with none away. Joseph Hatcher, pinch-running for Martell, scored on Cameron Bender’s RBI single for a 3-2 lead.

Piscataway ace Jayson Mahmood allowed two earned runs on five hits and four walks over five innings. He fanned one. The Vikings reached him for single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to break a scoreless deadlock.

Jacob Ciccone, a Lafayette College signee, took the loss. He allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits and three walks. Ciccone fanned eight over five innings.

Mike Reyes and Matt Storch each had an RBI for the Vikings. Teammates Nick Delacruz and Mike Slover each scored a run.

Piscataway (3-1) stranded five runners. South Brunswick (1-2) left seven on base.

Franklin 5, Carteret 0: Michael Gurzynski and Axel Nunez each went 2-for-3, while teammate Julian Santana accounted for Carteret’s only other base hit as the Ramblers were shut out after scoring 20 runs in their first two games.

Carteret pitcher Dennis Shopp allowed one unearned run over five innings. He walked seven and fanned three.

The Ramblers were outhit 6-5.

East Brunswick Tech 5, Wardlaw-Hartridge 4: Winning pitcher Chris Rosa helped his own cause, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base.

The Tigers (2-1) scored three runs in he fifth to tie the game and one in the sixth to take the lead.

Dan Penas went 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI for East Brunswick Tech. Teammate Joey Vorreas had a hit, two walks and a run scored.

Tim McDonald tripled and scored a run for the Rams.

Hillsborough 5, East Brunswick 0: Starting pitcher Liam Smith scattered three hits over five innings as the Bears were unable to score an earned run for the second straight game.

Smith walked four and fanned four.
