Outlook: Bishop Ahr is looking to pick up where it left off last season. The team hopes to win another White Division and also make it to a county final. With this year's transfers, making a run in the state tournament is also a goal. Bishop Ahr had a great fall season down at Hoop Group, competing with some of the best teams in the state, and wants to piggy back off of that. Emma Boslet reached 1,000 points as a sophomore last year and is on pace to become the school's all-time leading scorer this season.

Outlook: Projected starters are Marmol, Sargent, Chester, Marasigan and Consolazio. Edison is looking to build off a strong season last year. With a good summer and fall, the team is ready to start off strong. The Eagles will take it day by day and are looking to improve as the season goes and be ready for playoff basketball. Edison has experience with the team being mostly seniors. The Eagles will look to play fast as they have many guards that can push the ball. The bench is young, but have intangibles to be able to make a strong jump this year. Sargent is 347 points away from becoming the school's all-time leading scorer.

Outlook: Projected starters are Pettus, Caroselli, Claiborne, Mowafi and Sims. The Mustangs are a very young team that looks to take big steps forward after last season. Senior captain Tazia Pettus and junior captain Kristina Caroselli provide leadership and experience. Sophomore guard Malak Mowafi will look to become a much more pivotal part of the offense this season. Three-sport varsity athlete Olivia Sims (sophomore) is a great athlete who can dominate a game on the boards. Overall, the team looks to be much improved from last year’s 3-20 record, especially in the division. Alexis Claiborne (junior) played some JV and varsity last year, but will be integral for varsity this season. Coach Murphy takes over after three seasons of coaching at the middle school and AAU levels. Assistant coach is Taylor Freeman, a JFK and Moravian College graduate and 1,000-point scorer.

Leading the way in the back court are returning guards Jackie Ventricelli and Lyssandra DeLaCosta. Serina Townes finished last season as a major contributor to the Bombers' front court and they will look for her energy to set the tone underneath. Janeva Holland and freshman Brooke Holland provide additional opportunities for scoring and some depth under the basket. Stephanie Van Note will continue to be a relentless worker on the court each night and presents an additional scoring threat.

WOODBRIDGE

Coach: Bobby Timinski, sixth season

Skylar Devogd and Destany Cruz will anchor down low. Freshmen Bailey Timinski and Abby Rodriguez and junior Brianna Dejesus will all play vital roles early in the season. Wooodbridge has two senior transfers on this years roster - Kailee Stanley (Colonia) and Sally Abdelaa (JFK) who both will add size and toughness on both ends of the court.

BOYS BASKETBALL: BISHOP AHR READY FOR A BIG TURNAROUND

Outlook: Dunellen only has seven varsity players so the starting lineup will vary game to game. The team goals are to get back over the .500 mark. Leaders this season will be Barnett and Orellana.

METUCHEN

Coach: Kathy Glutz, second season

Last season: 6-15

Letterwinners: 5 lost, 5 returning

Top letterwinners lost: Jr. Brynn Farrell (transfer); G Rory Josell (14.7 ppg.); G Rachel Wyetzner (injury).

Roster: So. G Chase Klavon (9.4 ppg.); Jr. C Sam Antin (8.1 ppg., 6.7 rpg.); Sr. F Bridget O'Connor; Sr. F Michaela Kochy; Jr. G Emma Walters; Fr. G Molly Malague; So. G Noelle Leaf; Jr. F Jordan Perez; So. F Kyan Edwards; So. F Serena Deniz.

Outlook: Projected starters are Antin, O'Connor, Klavon, Leaf and Malague. Metuchen expects Antin and O’Connor to control the inside game with solid post play on both ends of the floor. Leaf at point guard will be able to distribute the ball to Klavon and Malague on the outside. The team goals are to be competitive in every game so that the Bulldogs can give themselves a chance to win. The team is young, so Metuchen is looking to develop and improve each time it steps on the floor.

MIDDLESEX

Coach: Kevin Harper, second season

Last season: 24-6

Top letterwinners lost: Haley Logue

Roster: So. Kristen Yonker; Fr. Madison Roble; Fr. Kaylin Nepton.

Outlook: Middlesex looks to repeat as Blue Division champions and advance to the Central Group I final.

SOUTH RIVER

Coach: Mike Feaster, eighth season

Last season: 17-11

Letterwinners: 2 lost, 7 returning

Top letterwinners lost: C Sonia Guiste (10 ppg.).

Roster: Sr. G Tara Beachem (14.9 ppg., 844 career points); Jr. F Ashley Fischer (11.5 ppg., 9.9 rpg.); Jr. G Khayla Smith (4 spg.); Jr. G Lauren Schmidt; Sr. G Maddie Franco; Sr. G Julianna Gil; Jr. F Mariah Crawford; So. F Rebeca Terralheiro; So. G Camila Lucas; Fr. G Tiffany Fischer.

Outlook: Projected starters are Beachem, Ashley Fischer, Smith, Schmidt and Tiffany Fischer. South River expects to contend for the Blue Division title, which has several real good teams. Tara Beachem, 156 points away from 1,000, is a four-year starter who can score a bunch consistently. Ashley Fischer is the most well-rounded player on the team and the leader on the court. Khayla Smith is a tremendous defender and Lauren Schmidt can shoot the lights out on any given night. Freshman Tiffany Fischer is a big time addition and has played like an upperclassman all preseason. If the Rams get good production from its bench, they should have a real solid year.

SPOTSWOOD

Coach: Vincent Vizzi, first season

Last season: 17-9

Letterwinners: 3 lost, 9 returning

Top letterwinners lost: F Erin Malin (11 ppg., 9 rpg., 7 bpg.).

Outlook: Spotswood returns only two starters from last season's division championship team, along with talented role players primed to make bigger impacts. A boost from some newcomers could help the team improve on last years’ season. The Chargers expect to remain competitive in the Blue Division and challenge themselves with a strong out of division schedule. Spotswood has great leadership this season lead by captains Paige Dadika, Savannah Robinson and Amber Meagher. Having a solid group of upperclassman helps create a positive environment on and off the court. Coach Vizzi is a graduate of Spotswood and was a three-sport athlete in soccer, basketball and baseball. He takes over after holding multiple coaching positions at the middle school and JV levels.

PERTH AMBOY TECH

Coach: Davonte Steele, first season

Last season: 12-12

Letterwinners: 1 lost, 7 returning

Top letterwinners lost: Kayla Dean (3 ppg., 10 rpg.).

Outlook: Perth Amboy Tech has a lot of potential for the upcoming season as it returns four starters from last year’s 12-12 team. Perth Amboy Tech had an upset win over Metuchen last year in the play-in round of the GMC Tournament. Expect both Daisy Arocho and Christina Crowe to be the leaders on and off the court. Perth Amboy Tech’s speed and defense will be key for this team as it hopes to compete for the Gold Division title.

Outlook: Wardlaw-Hartridge will look to improve every day.

SKYLAND CONFERENCE

DELAWARE DIVISION

FRANKLIN

Coach: Audrey Taylor, ninth season

Last season: 25-8

Roster: Diamond Miller (Sr., G, 6’2), Tiana Jackson (Sr., G, 5’10), Keona Schenck (Jr., G, 5’7), Kennady Schenck (Jr., G, 5’7), Christina Midgette (Fr., G, 5’10), Onsetta Ufuah (Jr., G, 5’9), Luese Ufuah (Sr., G, 5’7).

Outlook: After two straight trips to the Tournament of Champions final, there’s every reason to consider the Warriors the state’s No. 1 team, with veteran guard Camille Grey (10 PPG) the only starter lost to graduation. Franklin returns the reigning Courier News Girls Basketball Player of the Year in University of Maryland-bound senior Diamond Miller and her 23 points per game, as well as Jackson and the Schenck twins, giving the Warriors a starting lineup with a ton of weapons and experience. Taylor said the fifth starter is still to be determined as the right fit emerges. The defending Somerset County champs will rely on its veterans to lead on and off the court as they make a run at a third straight Group IV crown. Franklin should cruise to the Delaware Division and Somerset County titles and should be considered the favorite in Group IV and beyond.

RARITAN DIVISION

Coach: Mary Coyle Klinger, 35th season

Last season: 25-5

Letter winners: 5 lost, 5 returning

Roster: Divya Seenivasan (Sr., C, 6'2), Thalia Grandinetti (Jr., F, 5'8), Molly Lynch (Jr., G, 5'8), Macey Mento (Jr., Pt. G, 5'5), Olivia Mullins (Jr., G, 5'9), Julia Nilsen (Jr., F, 5'9), Lauryn Repollet (Jr., F, 5'9), Angelena Browne (So., G, 5'7), Chris Dalce (So., F, 6'2), Kylie Favours (So., G, 5'9), Kashia Palmer (So., F, 5'9), Isabella Pellecchia (So., G, 5'8), Mikayla White (So., G, 5'5), Laurita Wong (So., G, 5'6), Mia Yanogacio (So., G, 5'6), Leyla Castro (Fr., G, 5'5), Kay Donahue (Fr., F, 5'10), Toni Polvere (Fr., G, 5'6), Morgan Ryan (Fr., G, 5'7), Laura Valdez-Tan (Fr., F, 5'7).

Outlook: This could be an interesting year for the Argonauts after heavy graduation and transfer losses. Rutgers Prep has posted four straight seasons of 22 or more victories, three trips to the Non-Public B final — including a pair of titles — and three consecutive Somerset County Tournament crowns. But it not only graduated a ton of talent, including point guard Jahsyni Knight (Pitt) and first-team All-Area honoree Chaira Tibbitt (Boston U), but two-time first-team All-Area pick and leading scorer Leilani Correa (committed to the University of West Virginia) will also not return after transferring to Manchester Township for her senior season. And though this is certainly a young and inexperienced team, with just one senior on the roster, especially compared to recent Rutgers Prep squads, Klinger feels there’s a ton of potential, a crop that should be seasoned by the tough conference and non-conference schedule. The Argos will rely on its upperclassmen to lead the way.
