FIRST TEAM

Mark Whitford

Sayreville junior quarterback

The signal caller ended the season as the Greater Middlesex Conference’s passing leader, completing 127 of 219 attempts for a league-high 1,473 yards and 14 touchdowns. Whitford also rushed 75 times for 278 yards and four scores. He had a penchant for making clutch plays, none bigger than his dramatic touchdown pass to Jacari Carter as time expired in Sayreville’s 13-12 comeback victory over Edison.

Juwon Jackson

Piscataway senior running back

A three-year starter and the second-leading rusher in school history (behind four-year starter Elijah Barnwell), Jackson rushed for a Greater Middlesex Conference-leading 1,886 yards and 31 touchdowns. He averaged 10.6 yards per carry. Jackson’s 33 total touchdowns and 216 points scored are also single-season school records. As a linebacker, Jackson recorded 41 tackles and 1.5 sacks. He is the Home News Tribune’s 2018 Offensive Player of the Year.

Standing (L-R): Tim Gudzak, Myles Bailey, Anthony Burke, John Olmstead, Jordin Martell, Austin Mosier, Kasi Hazzard. Sitting (L-R): Brandon Seijo, Christian Petrillo, Mark Whitford, Jordan Davis, Jacari Carter, Chance Modica, Juwon Jackson, Connor Holmes.

Myles Bailey

North Brunswick junior running back

The school’s career rushing yardage leader, Bailey needs just one more rushing touchdown to set North Brunswick's all-time mark in that department. He holds offers from Minnesota, Syracuse and Boston College. Bailey helped the Raiders set a single-season school record with 10 victories and reach a sectional final (Central Group V) for the first time since 1979. Bailey had 1,460 yards (8.1 yards per carry) with 16 rushing touchdowns and completed four halfback option passes. The two-way starter also recorded 34 tackles and two interceptions as a free safety.

Jordan Davis

St. Joseph senior running back

Running behind one of the league’s best offensive lines, Davis totaled 1,422 all-purpose yards. Davis had the strength to run between the tackles and the speed to turn the corner. Once at the second level, he kicked in the afterburners. Davis rushed 164 times for 1,095 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also caught 11 passes for 144 yards and a score. A dangerous return specialist, Davis was also a stellar defensive back in St. Joseph’s gifted secondary.

John Olmstead

St. Joseph senior offensive lineman

The University of Notre Dame commit is widely regarded as one of the nation's finest linemen. Behind Olmstead, St. Joseph amassed 2,495 yards from scrimmage. His ability to pull and trap are exceptional, and his pass blocking is superior. Olmstead played guard but projects as a tackle in college. He doubled as a defensive tackle, where he frequently drew double teams. Olmstead has been selected to play in the Polynesian Bowl at Hawaii's Aloha Stadium. Olmstead was an outstanding leader on and off the field.

Austin Mosier

Piscataway senior offensive lineman

The two-way lineman was a key cog in an offense that averaged 340.8 yards per game, 260.6 of which came on the ground. The Chiefs converted 86.4 percent (38 of 44) of their red-zone opportunities. Mosier also recorded 29 tackles as an interior defensive lineman. He has committed to Old Dominion University. He was a first-team USA TODAY NETWORK New Jersey All-State selection.

Jordin Martell

Piscataway senior offensive lineman

Martell's excellent pass blocking enabled Joe Hatcher to become the usually-run-oriented Chiefs' first quarterback to pass for more than 1,000 yards in seven years. He paved the way for an offense that amassed more than 4,400 yards and averaged 39.1 points per game. The two-way lineman registered 32 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Martell is being recruited by the likes of Robert Morris and William & Mary.

Luke Niemeyer

South Plainfield senior offensive lineman

Niemeyer was the anchor of an offensive line that enabled the Tigers to rack up 3,360 yards – 305 per game – on the ground. South Plainfield ran the ball 418 times and attempted just 66 passes. Despite the opposition knowing the Tigers were going to keep the ball on the ground 72 percent of the time, South Plainfield still had success, snapping West Essex’s state-leading 18-game winning streak in the sectional playoffs. Niemeyer recorded 79 tacklees (12 for loss), four sacks and an interception on defense. Displaying his athleticism, he also returned a kickoff 68 yards.

Anthony Burke

Edison senior offensive lineman

A major reason the Eagles finished with their best record (8-3) in nearly two decades, Burke was a key cog in a line that protected the quarterback and paved the way for runners in a balanced offense. Behind Burke and company, Edison amassed nearly 3,000 yards from scrimmage, averaging more than 270 yards per game. The stellar two-way lineman also recorded 44 tackles for an Edison defense that limited four of its last five opponents to a touchdown or less.

Tim Gudzak

East Brunswick senior tight end

After starting the season at his natural tight end position, Gudzak, who also played fullback, defensive end and served as East Brunswick’s long snapper, was moved to quarterback. He amassed 1,679 yards from scrimmage. Gudzak caught 10 passes for 137 yards, rushed 72 times for 492 yards and completed 62 of 129 passes for 1,050 yards. He had five touchdowns through the air and six more on the ground. Gudzak also recorded 63 tackles (19 for a loss), forced four fumbles, recovered one loose ball and intercepted a pass.

Brandon Seijo

Perth Amboy senior wide receiver

The fleet-footed wideout led the conference with 543 receiving yards and was second in the league with 42 catches (three fewer than Sayreville’s Jacari Carter). Seijo hauled in five scoring strikes. A dangerous return specialist, he finished with 791 all-purpose yards. He returned one kickoff for a touchdown. Seijo caught a career-high 14 passes for 117 yards in an NJSIAA regional crossover game against Bayonne.

Chance Modica

Woodbridge senior wide receiver

A dangerous playmaker with a flair for the dramatic who stepped up in crunch time and on occasion when teammates were sidelined with injury, Modica totaled 1,184 all-purpose yards. He caught 27 passes for five touchdowns and 531 yards, the second highest total in the league. Modica also rushed 36 times for 361 yards and four scores. A dangerous return specialist, he had 292 return yards and one touchdown. Defensively, Modica recorded 49 tackles, three interceptions, a sack and a fumble recovery.

Connor Holmes

Sayreville senior athlete

The Army commit led the team with 117 tackles. A slot receiver in a balanced offense, Holmes also had a team-leading 954 all-purpose yards and scored 10 touchdowns. He is commited to Army. Holmes also played on special teams. He punted and blocked two field goals. He recovered a botched punt in the end zone with 32 seconds left to provide the decisive points in Sayreville’s 14-7 Central/South bowl victory over Williamstown.

Jacari Carter

Sayreville senior athlete

Carter recorded four interceptions and recovered a fumble as a defensive back. He recorded 52 tackles. He also caused a fumble and recovered a fumble. Carter amassed 866 all-purpose yards and seven touchdowns in a balanced offense for the reigning Central/South bowl champions. The slot receiver took snaps as a Wildcat and as a true quarterback. He also returned punts.

Christian Petrillo

North Brunswick senior athlete

The dual threat amassed a combined 1,359 yards from scrimmage and had a hand in 20 touchdowns while helping the Raiders win as many playoff games in one season (two) as North Brunswick won in all its previous seasons combined. Petrillo completed 58.5 percent of his passes (76 of 130) for 864 yards and 13 touchdowns. He rushed 108 times – more than any other signal caller in the league –  for 495 yards and seven scores. Petrillo made plays happen with his feet, was dangerous rolling out and a quintessential team leader.

Kasi Hazzard

J.P. Stevens senior utility

One of the league’s most versatile athletes, Hazzard helped the Hawks post their finest record since 2013. Hazzard was utilized as a quarterback, running back and receiver on offense. He carried 84 times for 780 yards, caught 13 passes for 196 yards and completed 21 of 42 passes for 346 yards. In total, Hazzard had a hand in 13 touchdowns and amassed 1,322 yards from scrimmage.
