In the wake of Chevrolet's reveal of the 2020 Silverado 2500/3500 — and all the commentary, good and bad, the heavy-duty trucks' looks have elicited — our spy shooters have captured the 2020 GMC Sierra 2500/3500 pickups near GM's Milford Proving Ground in Michigan.

Some of them are not completely covered, so we can see the Chevrolet and GMC HDs will share platforms once again — just like GM's light-duty siblings. However, it does look like there will be several exterior distinctions. Here's what our shooters just sent us regarding the GMC three-quarter and one-ton duallys.

"A prototype for the 2020 GMC Sierra 2500 Denali dropped its camouflage for a run on public roads, revealing the headlight and grille design for the pickup's top trim level. The similarities and differences between the Sierra 2500 and Sierra 1500 are on display here. The Sierra HD's face looks more rugged than the light-duty Sierra 1500, with a chunkier grille and headlight treatment, but the heavy chrome finish still dominates this new prototype. We also see the Denali's LED taillights thoroughly revealed through the light camouflage mesh, leaving little to the imagination.

"Just as with the Silverado HD prototype, we can verify that the Sierra also will get the bed step integrated into the rear fender just aft of the cab. One of the Denali prototypes had a covered tailgate, likely shrouding a variation of the MultiPro six-way tailgate that's unique to the GMC truck lineup.

"We also got our first look at an uncovered GMC Sierra 3500 SLT dual-rear-wheel crew cab revealing a completely unique grille treatment for the sub-Denali trim level. The grille treatment is a thorough departure from the Sierra 1500. The horizontal slats have a unique 'open-slat' design along with additional detailing completely unique to the HD model.

"We also can now see the more chiseled design details applied to the wider dual-rear-wheel box. The wide-body design also incorporates the 'step side' seen on the Silverado 2500/3500 crew cab. We see that the integrated side step resides at the front corner of the rear fender — just aft of the crew cab's rear doors. The integrated side step will always be placed at the front-most corner of the rear box, regardless of bed length."
