On this episode of the 2019 Gold Winch off-road truck competition, we find out which truck has the best crawl ratio in the real world. This is – World’s Slowest Drag Race #1. (Yep, there will be more of these.)


Crawl ratio is important for an off-road truck because it allows the driver to have more slow speed control when the terrain gets nasty. This begs the question – which truck has the best crawl ratio, and what does it mean in the real world when you shift the trucks into 4LO and put them into first gear.

The crawl ratio is calculated by multiplying:

(1st gear ratio) x (rear differential ratio) x (transfer case low-range ratio)


2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 / GMC Sierra 1500

Transmissions:

  • 6-speed: 4.03; 2.36; 1.53; 1.15; 0.85; 0.67 (R: 3.06)
  • 8-speed: 4.56; 2.97; 2.08; 1.69; 1.27; 1.00; 0.85; 0.65 (R: 3.82)
  • 10-speed: 4.70; 2.99; 2.15; 1.77; 1.52; 1.28; 1.00; 0.85; 0.69; 0.64; (R: 4.87)

Rear differentials:
