EDITOR'S NOTE: We expect all voters to adhere to NJSIAA rules, conducting themselves in a sportsmanlike fashion.

MyCentralJersey.com is asking readers to vote for its 2018 Greater Middlesex Conference Fall Sports Athlete of the Year.

The top vote-getter from our pool of eight candidates, each of which has been named Athlete of the Year in his or her respective sport, will receive a plaque and be featured in an upcoming edition of the Home News Tribune.

Readers can vote in the poll located at the bottom of this article for our 2018 Fall Sports Athlete of the Year.

The poll closes Dec. 6 at 7 p.m.

We’ll unveil our 2018 Football Offensive Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year next month following the conclusion of the gridiron season.

East Brunswick football star Tim Gudzak was recently voted MyCentralJersey.com’s 2018 Borden’s Baller of the Year. Gudzak will receive a special commemorative award.

Boys soccer, Jake Stump, South Brunswick

The junior, who tallied 21 goals and six assists, was voted the top player in the Greater Middlesex Conference by the league’s coaches. He was a constant and dangerous presence in the box, scoring goals with both feet and his head consistently. Stump possesses a quick first step, great strength and strikes an excellent ball on net. He is a college-level player who is only going to get better.

Girls soccer, Kayla Flynn, East Brunswick

The senior worked hard to rebound from a torn ACL and meniscus suffered in the 2017 GMC Tournament final. The left back returned to lead the Bears with 10 assists, including a key setup in a 1-0 win over Piscataway in the GMCT championship. Just as impressive was her defensive play. Flynn helped East Brunswick post 14 shutouts and allow just 11 goals for the season en route to winning the GMC Red Division. Her college choice is undecided.

Field hockey, Emily Glutz, Metuchen

The senior, who the league’s head coaches voted Greater Middlesex Conference Player of the Year, helped lead the Bulldogs to a second consecutive conference tournament title. She scored 11 goals and doled out 13 assists in league games, recording at least one point against every conference foe. The Bulldogs finished with an 18-1 record.

Boys cross country, Reyden Davies, East Brunswick

The senior was clearly the Greater Middlesex Conference’s most consistent runner. The reigning conference tournament champion also placed third in both the Central Group IV and state Group IV meets. Davies was the league’s best finisher at the prestigious Meet of Champions, where he placed 27th.

Girls cross country, Nikhila Obbineni, South Brunswick

The senior led the Vikings to their fourth consecutive Greater Middlesex Conference championship. She won the individual title at the meet. Obbineni went on to place second in the Central Group IV race and finished 10th in the Group IV meet. At the Red Division meet, she helped South Brunswick set a Middlesex County record for the fastest team average at Thompson Park.

Gymnastics, Ariyana Agarwala, Bishop Ahr

The senior won her fourth consecutive all-around title while leading Bishop Ahr to its fourth straight team title at the Greater Middlesex Conference championships. Agarwala had the best all-around score of any gymnast at the NJSIAA team championships. At the NJSIAA individual championships, Agarwala won the uneven bars title, placed second on floor, third on vault and eighth all-around.

Volleyball, Simrin Carlsen, J.P. Stevens

The sophomore is a great all-around player, who is a setter on her club team and an outside hitter for the Hawks. She already ranks third all-time at J.P. Stevens with 439 kills, 274 of which she recorded this season. Carlsen had 15 matches with 10 or more kills. She led the Hawks to a conference tournament title and helped J.P. Stevens reach the state tournament quarterfinals for the first time in school history.

Tennis, Divya Venkatarama, South Brunswick

The freshman burst onto the scene for the Vikings, winning the first singles title at the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over East Brunswick’s Phoebe Su. Venkatarama advanced to the fourth round of the NJSIAA Tournament, where she lost in straight sets to Paramus Catholic’s Andrea Cerdan.

We expect all voters to adhere to NJSIAA rules, conducting themselves in a sportsmanlike fashion.
