MCI team inspects Srinagar’s GMC - The Tribune India

Srinagar, November 26

A team of the Medical Council of India (MCI) is on a four-day visit to the state to examine the standards of undergraduate courses in medical colleges.

The four-member team visited the Government Medical College (GMC) in Srinagar to inspect the surgery, medicine, gynaecology and paediatrics departments.

The team checked whether the GMC had adequate faculty members, classrooms and theatres to teach 150 MBBS students. “The MCI team visited the GMC to inspect the overall academic scenario for the undergraduate course. They also checked whether manpower and logistics were adequate to conduct the ongoing final year examinations of MBBS students,” said a senior faculty member of the college. He said the MCI team gave them a positive feedback about the overall academic affairs of the college.

The MCI had in 2013 decided to increase in the intake capacity of government medical colleges of Srinagar and Jammu from 100 to 150 and that of SKIMS Medical College, Bemina, from 50 to 100. — TNS
