Amazingly, the three schools (Demarest, Bergenfield, Voorhees) with UPR rankings right in front of South Plainfield all lost on Friday night, putting the Tigers in possible position to receive a postseason berth.
The NJSIAA will announce official pairings for the sectional playoffs on Sunday.

With the loss, Woodbridge (4-5) had its hopes of qualifying for the playoffs dashed. The Barrons, who battled through injuries and opened the year with a grueling schedule under rookie head coach Joe Lasala, also saw their three-game winning streak come to an end.
The Patriots (6-3) entered the contest having already clinched a postseason berth as the team with the seventh best UPR ranking in the North 2 Group IV section.
Defensive lineman Antonio Alfano, among the nation’s best at his position and a University of Alabama commit, wreaked havoc in the Woodbridge backfield, registering multiple sacks and tackles for loss.
Colonia built a 14-0 halftime lead in the second quarter on Eric Hamilton’s 27-yard scoring strike to Kenny Shinski and Matt Croteau’s 9-yard touchdown run.
Hamilton rolled out to his right and found Shinski in the front corner of the end zone on the touchdown pass.
Woodbridge closed the deficit to 14-6 just before the half on Anthony Santino’s 21-yard touchdown pass to Ke’Sean Glover. The play capped a 60-yard drive that commenced with just over a minute and a half left in the second quarter. The extra point attempt was botched.
The Barrons squandered a first-and-goal opportunity in the first quarter and failed to convert multiple fourth-down chances later in the game.
Woodbridge trimmed the deficit to 21-12 with six minutes left in the third quarter when Santino connected with Glover on a 73-yard scoring strike.
Colonia lost a fumble on the ensuing series at the Woodbridge 37-yard line. The Barrons drove to the Colonia 45 before turning the ball over on downs.

NORTH BRUNSWICK 36, EAST BRUNSWICK 0
Senior quarterback Christian Petrillo rushed for three touchdowns as the Raiders (8-1) clinched a home playoff game for only the second time in school history, according to North Brunswick play-by-play announcer Korbid Thompson.
North Brunswick (8-1) extended its winning streak to seven games for the first time since 2003.
The Raiders are one win shy of tying the school record for victories, which North Brunswick set in 1979 and later matched in 1985 and 2000.
Junior running back Myles Bailey rushed for 129 yards. Petrillo spread the ball around to five different receivers.
North Brunswick, which entered this weekend’s action with the third best UPR rating in the Central Group V section, last hosted a postseason game in 2010 when it defeated Pennsauken 36-33 in a first-round contest.
The shutout was the second straight for North Brunswick, which has not allowed a point over the last nine quarters, dating back to a 49-7 win over Carteret earlier this month.
East Brunswick (1-7) had not been blanked since dropping a 41-0 decision to Piscataway in its season opener.
The Raiders have limited four opponents to a touchdown or less.

PISCATAWAY 26, WESTFIELD 0
Juwon Jackson rushed for 217 yards and four touchdowns on 20 carries as the Chiefs (8-0), ranked No. 5 in USA TODAY NETWORK New Jersey’s statewide Top 20, secured the top seed for the North 2 Group V playoffs.
The shutout was the fifth this season for Piscataway, which has limited all but one of its opponents (South Brunswick) to six or fewer points.
Westfield was outgained 381 to 108 in total yards. The Chiefs amassed 309 yards on the ground.
Jackson’s 1-yard scoring plunge was the lone touchdown before intermission as Piscataway took a slim 7-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.
His touchdown against a well-coached defense, that had Westfield players well positioned, capped a 50-yard drive.
Piscataway hampered itself with four offside penalties in the opening half. Offensive coordinator AJ Cook made some adjustments at the intermission that enabled Piscataway to use its speed on the edge and score on some stretch plays.
After forcing Piscataway to go three-and-out on its first two drives of the third quarter, Westfield had a first down at the Chiefs' 41-yard line. Angel LaPorte and Andre Felton combined on a sack and Marcel Walker followed with a sack of his own, forcing the Blue Devils to punt. Westfield downed the punt at the Piscataway 1-yard line at the start of the fourth quarter.
Nasir Best, who finished with 10 carries for 78 yards, broke off a 16-yard run to help extricate the Chiefs from their horrendous field position. A couple plays later, Jackson scored on 68-yard run for a 13-0 lead.
On the ensuing drive, the Chiefs converted a fourth-and-2, setting up Jackson for a 2-yard scoring jaunt that built Piscataway’s advantage to 19-0 with three minutes remaining.
Jackson closed out the scoring on a 61-yard run. Khristopher Hernandez intercepted a pass for the Chiefs.
With the offensive linemen getting a stronger push and doing a better job of staying on their blocks, Piscataway had success running the ball in the second half.
Defensive coordinator James Marsh is the architect of the Chiefs’ five shutouts.
