Perth Amboy 4, Ridge 0: Chris Brito provided all the offense the Panthers needed with one swing of his bat, belting a grand slam, and Jose Peralta hurled a complete-game shutout as 14th-seeded Perth Amboy knocked off the third-seeded Red Devils.

The win came less than 24 hours after Perth Amboy held on for a 9-7 win over Spotswood to reach the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament final for the first time in school history.

Perth Amboy will play a quarterfinal round state tournament game on Thursday against 11th-seeded Bayonne and will play in the GMCT championship on Saturday against South Plainfield.

Tommy Kearns had a sacrifice fly and Anthony Gambardella delivered an RBI single, accounting for both Sayreville runs against the 13th-seeded Tigers. James Ryan chipped in with two hits.

Nick Lodzinski hurled a perfect one and two thirds innings of relief for the save.

South Plainfield 7, A.L. Johnson 5: The ninth-seeded Tigers took a 7-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning and needed to record the final out with the tying run at the plate to dispose of the resilient eighth-seeded Crusaders in the opening round of the Central Group II tournament.

South Plainfield (19-9) advanced to Thursday’s quarterfinals against top-seeded Governor Livingston in a rematch of last year’s sectional final.

Rob Gonzalez, who went 2-for-4, delivered a two-run double in the fourth inning when South Plainfield scored four times to build its 7-1 lead.

Mike Stanczak went 1-for-3 with a double for the Tigers, who have won 15 of their last 17 games. Teammate Chris Born went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Winning pitcher Billy Keane allowed one earned run on nine hits over six innings before being lifted for a reliever. He struck out five.

Fernandez had stellar outings in a shutout victory over Middlesex and a no-decision against Spotswood earlier this season.

Florence 2, South River 1: Hard-luck losing pitcher RJ Fischer allowed two runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts as the sixth-seeded Rams were eliminated from the Central Group I tournament with a first-round loss.

Monmouth 6, Spotswood 0: In the opening round of the Central Group II tournament, Dante Ciaramella tossed a one-hit shutout and Vinny Guarino drove in four runs as the sixth-seeded Chargers endured their first home loss of the year.

The defeat marked only the second time since 2016 that the Chargers have dropped a game at The Swamp. The playoff loss at home was Spotswood’s first in four seasons.

The Chargers’ offense, which rallied for seven runs in the seventh inning of a 9-7 Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament semifinal loss to Perth Amboy less than 24 hours earlier, came into the sectional tournament game red hot.

Ciaramella, who benefited from stellar outfield defense, took a no-hitter into the seventh. With one away in that inning, Spotswood junior shortstop Matt Vento delivered a clean line-drive single to center field. Vin Guardiola followed with a single to left, but both runners were left stranded.

Spotswood concludes its season with a 17-7 record.

Old Bridge 7, Montgomery 5: The fifth-seeded Knights rallied for four runs in the sixth to snap a 3-3 deadlock and held on for a victory over the 12th-seeded Cougars in the opening round of the Central Group IV tournament.

Old Bridge, which bounced back from Sunday’s Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament semifinal loss to South Plainfield, scored single runs in the second, third and fourth innings to take a 3-2 lead.

Montgomery scored in the top of the sixth to forge a 3-3 tie, the second of the game.

The Cougars scored twice in the first inning.

North Brunswick (18-9) advanced to Thursday’s quarterfinals, where it will face top-seeded Hunterdon Central.

Scimone allowed one earned run on three hits and three walks. He fanned four in a 104-pitch effort. South Brunswick (13-12) spoiled his shutout bid in the sixth when Mike Reyes delivered the Vikings’ lone run with an RBI double.

Andrew Tan’s two-run single in the first gave the Raiders their 2-0 lead. Tan, who finished 2-for-3, was the lone player on either team to record a multiple-hit game. Tan has 37 RBI and 31 hits on the season.

Caleb Rodriguez and Christian Petrillo each singled and scored in the opening frame for the Raiders.

Sean Breheney crossed with North Brunswick’s other run in the second inning on Dylan Glassman’s sacrifice fly.

According to Raiders' play-by-play announcer Korbid Thompson, the 18 wins for North Brunswick are the program's most since 1984, the last year the team won a sectional title.

Hard-luck losing pitcher Jacob Ciccone allowed no earned runs on four hits and two walks. He struck out five and was lifted after throwing 108 pitches through six innings.

Owner of a deceptive 4-4 record with a 0.56 ERA, South Brunswick has scored a total of three runs in Ciccone’s four losses.

Colonia (17-7) advanced to Thursday's quarterfinals, where it will face Ferris.

The Patriots generated all their runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a scoreless deadlock. They parlayed five hits and three walks into that five-run rally, during which Colonia knocked ace Tyler Ras, a University of Alabama commit, out of the box.

Anthony Demeo broke the scoreless tie with a sacrifice fly that concluded a 10-pitch at-bat. Tommy Mitch roped a two-run double down the line during the rally.

Six Patriots had one hit apiece including. Anthony Palmisano (triple) and Nich Scherb (single) each had a hit and scored a run.

Jason Hilenski drew three walks and scored a run. Nick Nielsen had a single and an RBI.

Ras struck out five and walked six. He allowed three earned runs over five and a third innings.

The shutout was the Colonia pitching staff’s ninth of the season.

The Patriots avenged a 6-5 regular-season loss to the Lions.

East Brunswick 3, Hillsborough 2: Diego Garcia Ceballos’ single to center scored James Schuld with one away in the bottom of the eighth as the third-seeded Bears walked off with a victory of the 14th-seeded Raiders in the opening round of the Central Group IV tournament.

East Brunswick (17-7) advanced to Thursday's quarterfinals, where it will face Freehold Township, a 1-0 winner over Monroe in another first-round game.
