Woodbridge 10, South Amboy 0: Winning pitcher Rob Nunez hurled five frames of one-hit baseball in a GMC crossover contest shortened to six innings via the mercy rule.

Nunez fanned nine and benefited from a balanced offense as rookie head coach Michael Monaco earned his first career victory.

Woodbridge rallied for three runs in the second, two runs in the third and scored three more times in the fourth to build an 8-0 lead. The Barrons (1-0) plated single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Joe Muccilli pitched a scoreless sixth for Woodbridge.

Darren Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBI, while teammate Jacob Kreusch also collected two hits and two RBI. Mike Medvetz belted a two-run homer to right field. Tom O’Halloran went 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored.

Nick Charmello recorded the lone hit off Nunez for South Amboy (0-1). Seven Barrons had at least one hit apiece.

North Brunswick 3, Neptune 2: Starting pitcher Steve Mihalenko (four and two thirds innings) and reliever Mike Scimone combined on a four-hitter as the Raiders (1-0) hung on for a season-opening win.

Damien Ortiz gave North Brunswick a 3-0 lead with a two-run double in the top of the third. The Raiders plated their other run in the previous inning on Danny Reardon’s solo homer.

Reardon finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Christian Petrillo doubled and scored a run. Sean Breheney and Kelson Hopson each singled for North Brunswick, which outhit Neptune 7-4.

Mihalenko and Scimone, who earned the save, combined to fan nine batters. Scimone whiffed the game's final hitter, who represented the winning run at the plate, to preserve the victory.

Neptune (0-1) scored single runs in the fifth and seventh innings. The Raiders overcame four errors.

Bishop Ahr 13, Rutgers Prep 6: Ryan Pittari, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI, highlighted a four-run rally in the top of the first inning with an RBI single that catapulted the Trojans (1-0) to an impressive season-opening win.

Kyle Orta plated a run with a sacrifice fly and Brandon Rodriguez delivered another with an RBI single during the first-inning outburst.

Pittari belted his first career homer, a two-run shot, later in the game. Richie Albrecht, who was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, launched a solo homer, his first career blast, in the second inning. Albrecht also doubled.

Sammy Rodriguez went 4-for-5, while teammates Jack Roarty and Sean Flynn added two hits apiece. Flynn earned the win on the mound.

Morristown 4, Old Bridge 0: Danny Chiofalo, who singled and walked, accounted for one of the two hits the Knights mustered off winning pitcher Brennan O’Neill.

O’Neill went the distance, striking out 11 and issuing one walk in an 86-pitch effort for Morristown, which is coming off a 17-10 campaign.

Hard-luck losing pitcher Paul Tannucilli threw well for the Knights. He allowed three runs, scattered eight hits, struck out four and walked one over six innings.

Morristown, which took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, scored three insurance runs over the final two innings.

David Haberman and Pat Monfort each had two hits and an RBI.
