HAVILAND — Wayne Trace remained tied atop the Green Meadows Conference girls basketball standings Tuesday night with a 49-29 win over visiting Edgerton.
The Raiders used a big first quarter, highlighted by a late 3-pointer from Miriam Sinn and baskets by Sadie Sinn and Claire Sinn, to take a 17-7 advantage after eight minutes of action. Wayne Trace then put the game away, scoring the first 13 points of the second quarter to expand the lead to 30-7 and the Raiders cruised the rest of the way.
“It was good to see us get off to a good start,” said Wayne Trace coach Bethany DeJarnett. “We were able to get a lot of girls playing time tonight and almost everybody scored.”
Leading
30-10 at the intermission, Wayne Trace opened the third quarter with
six straight points. Brooke Sinn picked up a basket and two free throws
followed by a Claire Sinn bucket to extend the lead to 36-10. The
Raiders also got two buckets by Sadie Sinn and another from Chelsea Sinn
in leading 42-15 at the end of three periods.
Katrina Stoller, Tiffany Sinn and Sara Sinn all came off of the Raider bench to find the scoring column in the fourth quarter as Wayne Trace cruised to the 49-29 win.
“It was good to get a win but we still have two more games this week,” DeJarnett said. “We have to prepare for Ayersville in league play and then a tough road game at Miller City so we will have to play well both games.”
Claire Sinn led the way for Wayne Trace with 14 points while Brooke Sinn added 8. Sadie Sinn also had 7 for the Raiders.
Kaylee Shepherd grabbed 7 rebounds to top Wayne Trace, which won the boards 30-16 over the Bulldogs. Ally Cape scored 18 points to top Edgerton, which falls to 4-11 overall and 1-3 in the league.
Wayne Trace’s junior varsity posted a 47-34 victory over the Bulldogs.
The Raiders hit the Palace floor again on Thursday for their third game in four days when they host Ayersville in Green Meadows Conference action. Wayne Trace then travels to Miller City for a Saturday afternoon non-league contest.
