Forty years after releasing the original GMC Desert Fox pickup truck and Jimmy Desert Fox SUV, the brand is honoring the super-’70s duo with the Desert Fox Middle East truck concept. The Sierra 1500–based concept vehicle has all the subtlety of off-road-oriented pickups such as the Ford F-150 Raptor, the Ram 1500 Rebel, and the Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, plus a dash of retro cool.
Notably, the concept cribs its tan exterior hue and multicolored side stripes from the original Desert Fox twins. The 1970s color scheme, which is as kitschy as disco balls and platform shoes, is accompanied by a host of off-road-ready and performance-oriented equipment. The concept features flared fenders that cover a set of beadlock wheels wrapped in chunky desert-terrain tires, a bed-mounted sports bar holding up a pair of LED jacklights, a completely revised suspension system, a set of front and rear bumpers that appear to improve the truck’s approach and departure angles, a front-mounted winch, custom skid plates, and a performance exhaust system. GMC didn’t mention what powers the truck, but we’d wager the Desert Fox Middle East concept packs the brand’s 355-hp 5.3-liter V-8.
Unfortunately, GMC hasn’t announced any plans to produce the retro-themed concept truck—although, Dubai being a country where money is no barrier, we imagine a wealthy admirer of the Middle East Desert Fox concept could get one if he really wanted.
